Why Shelby? Building an argument for the Mrs.

Hi Folks,

Mad props to the stangnet forum:hail2: . I've been getting a lot of support here:nice: .

Here's the deal. We ARE going to get a Mustang GT convertible Premium minimum. She is CREDITED about 30K for the purchase through her company which pretty much gets us a Mustang GT Deluxe vert FREE OF CHARGE (minus taxes). I'm trying to push the argument for getting a Shelby. I think laying down an extra $17K for this car is a no-brainer, considering what we pay out of pocket. Remember, this is pushing pros from a female perspective, as it will be her car (that's what I wan't her to believe anyway ;)). I think she will be happy either way, but given the oportunity...

I've been telling her that the Shelby is a modern classic that is limited edition, and will significantly keep resale value. Especially since this will be a 3rd car that we won't need to drive daily ;).

There is a chance that, since it is a company issued/branded car, with custom paint, etc. that the Shelby model will not be available. They do allow us to upgrade features with our own cash, so I am going to do everything in my power to make it happen!
 
You can probably do a bit better than dropping an extra $17k. Right now there is a new one listed on Ebay with a buy-it-now of $43,500. With patience, I'm sure you could find more at that price, or possibly a hare better.

The Shelby is more or less just an option package on a regular Mustang. The resale value on the car is definitely a huge plus to the Shelby. It will hold much better than a regular GT. Insurance was cheaper for an 07 Shelby GT than my 08 regular GT.

I'm not following you about the custom paint - they are standard colors you can get on any mustang, and unless they changed something for 2008, the stripes are just vinyl stripes.
 
Thanks for the input. Unfortunately, I don't think we have a choice as to where we get the car. It needs to be special ordered due to the custom paint required. FYI, the custom paint involves an embossing or etching of some sort of the company logo right where the GT500 logo would go. I've seen other issued cars, and they are very subtle. I don't know much about it, personally.

Yes it is a cosmetics related company, but it is Candy Apple Red! The graphics are extremely subtle, and are located on the lower panel of the door where you would normally see the GT500 graphics. I threatened to buy some magnetic strips to cover the logo when I drive it, but once I saw the graphics, and the colors on another vehicle, I thought 'no biggie at all'. Heck yeah go for the shelby, it's like putting money in the bank as long as you keep the car up. The problem with the shelby is the dealer mark up, that could cause you to have to dig real deep into your pocket for your part of the cash. If you can get the car at sticker or at least close, it would be a great investment.
 
I originally thought you were talking about a Shelby GT. If you can get a GT 500 for $43,000, that's not bad.
With the $30,000 credit, does the car remain yours forever? If so, heck I can sell cosmetics. Sign me up. American Idol is making Guy Liner popular so there you go.

If you can get an '08 Shelby GT for $43K, you are mad lucky. A soldier in my reserve unit works at a Ford dealership and he said the Shelby's run for $75K plus in CA (dealer markup). He said they were selling for up to $109K when they first came out in '06:jaw: Prolly not much cheaper elsewhere.

You certainly aren't talking about the Shelby GT. LOL. I knew that there are some crazy GT500 mark-ups but, still, I've never seen one over 90 (which is a rip off).

First of all, congratulations to the Mrs.

Apparently, it looks like she is 'top of the heap' and has earned the metaphorical 'pink cadillac.' You have to be really good to get to that level.

Your first post refers to being able to upgrade features. Will Beauticontrol, however, allow you to upgrade to a Shelby (regardless of whether its a GT or GT500)? After all, even though it is her/your car to keep, Beauticontrol just might require you to keep the car within the limits of an image the company wants to portray. The car is 'free of charge' but there might be a catch to it. Whatever the case, best of luck in obtaining what you desire. :hail2:
 
The argument should be simple.

You can either take an ordinary car free of charge...

OR

invest less than $20k on a very high-end vehicle that will not lose its value like regular cars do. Think of it as an appreciating investment rather than a depreciating debt.

That ought to do it. Women love money and when you persuade them that you will be making more of it... problem solved.
 
Here are my 2 cents. I could go right now and get an '08 GT500 for $43k. Coupe that is... not sure about the vert. So paying over 50k is ridiculous. I say do it because like many people say, it'll be kind of an investment. Think about this one, sadly, but when Shelby dies :( resale on the car will just continue to go up. Tossing it out there. When does the car become yours, i.e. when could you put the GT500 rocker stripes back on?
 
Will prices go up when Shelby dies? I guarantee his company will survive and Shelbys will still be built. Will there be pricing for cars built before his death and after? I am willing to bet he never even sees most of the cars that are built so does his life or death really even have anything to do with the value?

Well he had a hand in the new GT500 and Ford actively sought him out for that reason. If he's dead, they can't do that. Sure the company and name will live on but these are more than likely the last cars we'll see where he's had a hand in development.
