Widest Tire and Rim with 1.5" Drop

I was recently in a friends car who had Steeda Sport springs and had 275/40r17 on 9" wide rims. the front wheels rubbed when making u-turns. This has me rethinking my suspension setup. What is the widest I can go with no rubbing?????? I plan on Getting the Steeda Comp springs but don't want an rubbing issues.

i am wondering the same thing. i have a 1.5" drop and plan on getting some 18" black chrome mach 1 rims with 255/275's.

I have 245/315 on 17" with almost 2" drop...no rubbing at all

I have 265/35/18 & 295/35/18 with a 1.25 inch drop. No rubbing at all.

i have 275/40 and 315/35's with eibach sportlines and have a little trouble with the back wheels rubbing when i take corners. Not when I hit bumps or anything, just when there is body roll. I'm gonna go take a hammer to it today i think

18X9 wheels with 275X35X18 all around. No rubbing with my Eibach Pro-Kit springs. When I put on my Steeda tubular front sway bar I did get contact with the edge of the rim. Put in 1/4 wheel spacers and no problems at all now.

18X9 FR500 wheels 245 on front 285 on rear with Eibach 1.5 springs. No rub or any problems at all.

My set-up is also fine. No rubbing 2" drop. I personally wouldnt put less than a 265 tire on a 9" rim because you rim is wide open to get damaged. You dont need to go that small and I want all the grip I can get at the front also.

i had steeda sports on my 00gt vert with 265/35/18 and 295/35/18 and had no rubbing or clearance issues

Ok so I guess it is just the 40 series that I should stay away from. Those seem to be the only ones that cause some rubbing. Or should I just use some wheel spacers???

255s on 9"s in the front ,315's on 10.5's on the rear.With sportlines i had no issues.And i now have eibach drag springs with one coil cut and no issues..

If you are running 17s then a 275/40/17 will be okay. I had 275/40s with 17x9s front and rear and had no problems with the Steeda springs. I currently have 18s with 265/35 front and 285/35 rear on 18x9s with Sportline springs and have not rubbing issues.
The 03 and 04 Cobras have 17x9s with 275/40/17s!

I'm running 18x9 with 265/30 on front and 18x10 with 305/30 nitto dr on back. I have the eibach sportlines and only rub on back. I knurled the lip on the back or banged it with a sheet metal hammer and now my problem is solved. Their is no better look on a stang than that, in my opinion. The 265 fill out the 9" rim in front. I think 275 is to much and causes extra road wonder. The 305 on back fit plush also and give the car a really good stance. I am in the process of posting some pictures. I'll try to hurry to help you decide.

I am running 275/40 17's on 9"s up front and 315/35's on 10.5"s out back on Sportlines. No issues other than a little rubbing when turning the steering wheel all the way in either direction. I have driven the car fairly hard in the twisties and no unusual wear at all.
