Wild hare idea 1980 for drag/toy car

I use a tremec TKO that has been faceplatted by liberty gears. Its an old school TKO, not a 500 or 600. It has held up to an honest 675hp on nitrous for about 10 passes now and i have 50-75 low 11 second passes, and 25 high ten second passes on the setup. The last 5 passes i made with the car were all within .05 seconds.

Im impressed with that transmission, my car weighs 3350 with me and a full tank of fuel and on motor im over the factory torque rating, so id say its done the job well

I have 1500 into my transmission. I bought the car with the trans, and thats what it cost me for liberty to faceplate and rebuild it. You can find used faceplated TKO500 and 600 transmissions for under 2k used, thats the plan for my new motor.

New from liberty a faceplated TKO 600 is $2900

add another 600 for a clutch and flywheel, and 200 for a quicktime bellhousing, so my setup, with clutch and bell, and you are looking at around 2300.

My "killer" clutch setup is a ram powergrip and a steel flywheel.

Comparing costs between a transmission with overdrive to one without overdrive is apples to oranges.

Also, i bet the C4 you build, would use some used parts, so its also not really a fair comparison money wise

On another note, why anyone would build a c4 is beyond me, those transmissions are no TH400.

Cause a th400 is stronger, cheaper, and more reliable than a C4, and its hard to compare a th400 to a glide considering one is a two speed and the other is a 3 speed. Also, glides aren't necessarily stronger than th400's. Alot of the big dogs(like fiscus) are using turboglides, which is a 2 speed th400

for some reason i thought fiscus was running a TH210X... but he is running a 2 speed Th400.
but im not sure if call the turboglides a TH400...

so everything being new your looking 3700 bucks...

im pretty sure i could put a crazy C4 in a car for less then that... with a converter

I wouldn't consider this "crazy' but my Dad put together a C4 for his drag car with all racing clutches, bands, manual shift valve body, hardened 6 pin planetaries, and a 3200-3600 stall converter for around $900. But, that was HIS cost through his suppliers and building it himself. It'd be a lot more for a customer, but definitely no $3700. And, I'd be willing to bet it would suit OP's needs.

I'm getting no calls back and I do not see the car anywhere. :fuss: I might have written down the wrong number, but I bet at the price it went before I got even the first response here.

Thank you for all the good ideas so I'll be ready next time.:leaving:
