Will a 275 wide tire fit on an 8" wide rim?

I have a pair of 17x8 tribars sitting in the gerage for some drag tires and I currently have Nitto555R's on my 17x9 cobras and by time I get my differential rebuilt and new gears, my nittos will be probably about 50% gone so I wanted to put them on the tribars and use them for racing only and buy some normal 555's for my cobras. So will a 275/40/17 tire fit on an 8" wide rim? I think the recomended rim width was 8.5" - 10"

yeah they work alot of people run that size on the stock wheels

They should work, the nitto's seem to run a little small.

I had some 275 BFG's on my stock rims with no problems. So I dont see a problem at all with the nittos..

is that true with all tires or just nittos. im wondering b/c new tire time is coming up and if i can get some 275s w/o having to buy new rims that would be awesome. but i do have the stock 16 inch waffle wheels. what are your thoughts?

red94fiveo posted above that the Nittos run a little smaller than other brands but shouldn't be by much so any 275 should fit on an 8" wide rim

so your saying a 275/50/16 tire wont fit on a 16x8" rim??? if a 275/40/17 will fit on a 17x8" rim... then why should the diameter matter if they are still both 275's? but can a 275 tire have a diff width for the 16 and 17 inch rims?
