I'm just curious if any one out there has this size tire on there 8.5 inch wheels, will this tire size give me any problems with rubbing when i make a hard turns? Or should i run a set of 255x40x17 inch tires on my wheels, my wheels are aftermarket cobra motorsport wheels and i've never run across this 8.5 inch wheel before, I just want to put the widest tires possible on my wheels without any safety issues. P.S. if anyone out there has any pics. of these tires on there cars please let me see. Hey thanks.

Its possible but not safe/responsible. 9inch wide for 275. 8.5 would be 255. unless you have a hell of a lot of HP nobody really needs 275. buying really wide tires just for looks is lamme.

not safe or responsible??? i've had BFG 275-40-17's on all for corners for over 2 years now. never had a problem. in fact, wider tires help with wet traction too. hmmm. 275's will be fine on 17x8 rims, even better on 17x8.5. you might experience rubbing up front on the swaybar when the wheel is fully turned. in the rear, it might rub the exhaust pipes if you have aftermarket.

and as far as tire size- if you can spin 'em, you can wear 'em.

Sorry about the spelling, I'm still drunk from Christmas.
Hey thanks for all the post. I just been checking around for prices and the best price i have so far is from Discount Tire here in tyler texas which this is a chain of stores nationwide, anyway the best price was $119.00 each for the Kumho Ecsta, not sure if it's spelled correct. But i had to ask him about this brand, because i've had this brand before and they are dirt cheap compared to other brands and have good tread life. Most tire stores were trying to sell me a BF goodwrich tire which are like $225.00 each. Anyway the salesperson said that i should have no problem with safety or rubbing and that they are a good performing tire. So it's looks like i'll have to order these tires since he doesn't have but one in stock, i'm just going to put two on the car for now, on the rear. Thanks for all the info. :nice:

Just because they can SQUEEZE on doesnt mean its safe, The bulge on the outside edge just means your loosing response on extream turns. You want the tire firm and straight on the outside edge. 255 is the widest any tire expert or any real racer will say for a 8.5 rim.

Show up to a autocross with those tires and see guys with proper tires run rings around you.

275 Nittos on my stock Bullitts and they're fine.

I'm running 17x9's up front with the 275/40/17 Goodyear GSD3's, and have had no rubbing issues at full turn. Don't know if matters that the wheels are a tad wider than stock, but they are Bullitt's.

I have the 315/35's out back on 10.5" wheels. Guess that makes me lame
