What does that mean??? The SRT-10 DOES have the Viper engine. And if he WAS racing an SRT-10, he'd most likely lose.

I MEANT if the SRT-10 is the one with the VIPER engine, then he'll win...because THIS guy has the R/T which DOESN'T have the viper engine....so he will blow his doors off.

I left a RT from 4th gear starting at 45. Never could get up to me then around 75 (still in 4th) I just walked him. He probably thought he was hanging... but I was just too lazy to downshift and care. There no match, even for a stock automatic GT.. or even an auto 1994-1998 MGT for that matter..

I believe the R/T model has the V-10 Viper engine in it. I believe they beat Lightnings in the 1/4 mile by .2 or .3. Just to give you a heads up. However, they do weight like 5,500lbs. I'd just be careful, i dont honestly know how that race would go.

Thats a fast truck, but even with his viper engine, i can't picture him beating your GT. Give it a go, and we'll find out!

the 01 RT's i belive were only made on the Dakota platform and they are the regular 5.9 V8 That dodge has always put in thier pieces! You will walk him the whole way! They didn't put the Viper engine in it until recently and that truck is called the "RT-10" and its a full size single cab, the old full size dodges that were supposed to be fast called SSTs i believe.

It's SRT-10, not RT-10.

I'm sorry but i've only made it to the first page and had to admit the amount of stupidity a "senoir" member can have.... The 2001 dodge "r/t" is nothing it's weak( compared to a 01' GT modded) the transmissions on them are pitiful, the stock engine rev at like 5000 rpm, unless he has a 408 stroker kit or a swapped in a hemi, or completly tricked engine you'll toast him.... ( which is a direct bolt up to the r/t but tranny's cant handle them)
Also the r/t model witht the v-10 motor is called the srt-10 it rides on 22" rims has a v-10 viper motor, kills the lightning and goes 160mph in a 5000 pound truck ( thats scarey as hell)

Yeah, I thought everyone knew the 5.9's were weak also. On a side note, has anyone (like magazines and other publications) done any runs with the new SRT-10s at the strip? What do they run? I have heard that even with the added power, they aren't much faster than (if any) than a lightning. Probably mostly due to the weight.
But I have yet to see any official tests so I just go on what others report from local strips and such.... Any ideas?

We already discussed this...i thogutht he R/T had the viper engine. We found out the SRT-10 had the viper engine. The truck that he is racing is JUST an R/t. So it DOESN't have the v10. Furthermore, i SAID his GT would beat the R/T since it doesn't have the viper engine. Why dont you read before you post...

Teach him a lesson about ford power. The only way he can get you is with spray or nitrous. Make sure he doesn't have either and you'll show him taillights. I beat one with all boltons and just the driver with me and 2 buddys in my car by about 4 cars to 80 mph. Sad...they are about 15.3-15.4 trucks.

I agree totally about the transmission on the dodges. I owned a 98 and a 01 both bought them new (dodge ram). Both had the same 46RE automatic transmission in them and BOTH had rebuilds under warranty. They are about the worst excuses for gear shifting metal i've ever seen.

well the srt-10 will not kill the lightning i have a vid to prove it. I'm pretty sure it's posted all over the forums, thats why dodge had to change their slogan for the SRT-10. They called it the "Fastest Truck In The World". The video proves it's not. And to add to this thread you will smoke him. make us proud. peace

I have a 1998 Ram SS/T 360 and its no mustang..... but lets not call it weak. Going through this thread and seeing everyone trash this motor and dodge is going to bring a tear to my eye. But seriously the 360 makes real good torque just not good power because dodge has this motor detuned so freakin much! A programmer on these engione have been known to make almost 50hp!!!!! Thats alot comin from just a programmer and oh yea, I raced my friends 1995 AOD covertible 5.0 with off road h pipes, flowmasters, and a k&n and he easily walked away from me. Oh well the mods will come! Anyways i have a newfound respect for dodge but ford will always be at the top of my list.

having driven a moddified R/T, i can tell you the motor is in-fact weak. with headers, t/b, CAI, torque convertor, injectors, and a chip, my stock automatic convertable GT was easily faster. granted, the low end torque was good, but after 35mph, it's toast. 235-240hp from a 5.9L (4800rpm redline) in a heavy ass truck = not fast. oh yeah, it can't tow anything either.

dbmstng, Ill hook up to the back of your stang anyday = j/k But seriously my truck is rated to tow 8100 pounds stock and everyone knows how conservative the ratings are, not to mention i have 3.55's in the rear and there by no means a towing gear. But whatever, I know my truck isnt exactly "fast" yet but no need to bash it.

Thats a load of crap...i've owned 2 dodge rams and they are the biggest slugs known to man. I never got the thing to run better than 16.3 with boltons. They are slow, they have pitiful transmissions, the engines are not detuned they are just plain dogs. A PCM upgrade with premium gas and increased timing would gain you about 6-10hp at max. 50 hp my ass.

The new hemi has decent breathing heads and a comparable intake along with great tuning and timing set for 91-93 octane. Thats the reason they are so much better. Dodge did nothing with the old 5.2/5.9's. The only way to get any power of them was to go with an entire aftermarket setup as there wasn't a big market for head swaps for these trucks. They just sat on the old engines way too long trying to soak the profits in from redesigning the truck frequently.

The 360 makes pitiful torque considering it has a pinhole sized intake manifold and it thew ford and chevy engines in the same group made slightly more torque and CONSIDERABLY more hp on top of that.

Oh and back to the 302/360 tuning...my 5.2L that i had in 01 pinged on light throttle because it was too aggressively tuned for its design. So much for detuned in order of 50+hp . In any case i bet you can't guess what the 5.2L dynod out? 161 hp...thats right 1 6 1 HP (unbelievably embarassing for an engine that size).

a guy who works with my sister has the EXACT same truck, only he has an exhaust, chip, K&N, and somthin else. anyway, my sis raced him in her 98 auto GT (stock). she said she killed him by 2 car lenths, and it wasnt even a full quarter mile. when i race at that spot, i can only get to ~75, so im sure they didnt even hit 70. take him out

thanks alot kirkyg, so far my truck is a slow gas guzzling piece of crap that makes pitiful hp and torque, and every other truck out there is better. Im 16 years old and am pretty proud of my truck so it really sucks when you sit there and give me crap about it . I understand that SOME of the things you said are true but its still a nice truck. 50hp was a pretty big overstatment but hypertech/superchips advertise pretty large #'s. But whatever if it wasnt for insurance reasons I might of have had a mustang but for now im happy with what ive got.
