Will the T5 from a 5.o work in the 2.3 turbo?

im not talking about road rage racing... without full boost the turbo doesnt do THAT much to compensate for the gear ratio. meaning at low rpms you will not be generating the torque needed to get moving. i dunno about you but I dont shift my car above 2500 rpms when I'm daily driving...

too each his own, ive never shifted at 2500 period. Guess it just depends on your driving habits, i get pretty good gas milage (~24mpg city) for usualy taking it to 4k during daily driving (occautionaly 5.5k when theres a awsome turn!)

holy crap...my car rarely sees 5.5k. haha, ah well, yes...i HAVE driven a turbo car. i actually thought of switching the T5 in my Turbo 280zx to T5 from a turbo coupe b/c of the higher gearing...low gearing does NOT make your turbo spool earlier...i have no clue where you came up with that. you may hear it trying to spool earlier, but i guarantee you will hit full boost earlier and harder with a higher geared car. and please, remove the metal pole from YOUR ass...jeez, people are frikin jumpy in here.

Ok.. quit speculating and read a bit on TurboFord. I think you'll find many answers to your questions in the following threads:

V8 T5 Installed (Especially see post by JLockhart)
Transmissions
3.73's, 4.10's or 4.30's? Which to choose

Ok, you get the idea.. I don't feel like searching any more for y'all.

I know that based on what I have read on this subject over the last year or so, I will probably go to a v8 T5 when my current tranny kicks the bucket. I actually want a taller 1st gear, and I'm only running 3.55s right now. When I install a 3.73 R&P soon, 1st gear is going to be a joke. It was rather short with the N/A engine, turbo will make it much worse.

How about this, I had to swap the stock T-5 (w/ like a 3.97 1st gear) out of my 84 GT-T for a V-8 T-5 (w/ the 3.35 the STOCK ones have) for a couple of days while I fixed a shift fork in the 2.3 T-5. The car has the stock 3.45's in it w/ a 235/60-15 on the back of it. The car drove better around town w/ the V-8 tranny than it did w/ the 2.3 tranny. It leave a light alittle slower if I pulled away the same but nothing that couldn't be compensated for. When I come across another V-8 box it will go in to the GT-T. While it didn't come in to full boost sooner it did do it quicker. If anybody thinks that the car will slow down tremendously they are out of their tree.

And as I undersand you can't just swap the input shafts but I could be mistaken, as I just had mine turned down to fit the 2.3 pilot bearing.

So it is just the diameter of the input shaft...the gears on the pilot shaft match fine with those on the 2.3 clutch? I know I am probably repeating what has been said five times...but I guess I need to hear it again...lol So the shaft just needs to be made a little smaller..... Thanks....

Its not the diameter of the input shaft, it is the diameter at the tip of the shaft that goes into the pilot bearing. I put a V8 box in my bone stock 84 SVO with the stock rear gears and was not happy with it because it would not take off as quick. But now that I have modified my motor and put in 3.73 I am looking forward to locating a V8 tranny to take advantage of the increased torque since 1st gear is almost useless now.

dude Brantley! didn't you just yank out a set of 3.73 to put in those 3.55 when your car was down for the swap?

lol I did, actually.. My 3.73 R&P was shot. The pinion gear was missing chunks from 2 or 3 teeth! I thought that since a turbo engine liked having load on it, I decided I would try the 3.55. It would be pretty decent for street only driving, but 3.55 sucks for autocross. So, back to 3.73 it is. I got some money for Christmas, so I'm hoping to switch back in the next week or two.

4cyl T5 has 4.06 first 2.88 second 1.88 third 1.01 fourth .80 fifth on the turbo model
or
3.08 first 2.66 second 1.88 third 1.00 fourth .80 fifth from the experiences i had with the spare transmission ive aqquired in case i eventually frag one from my 347

the V8 T5 has from the factory has 2.85 first 1.88 second 1.33 third 1.01 fourth .80 fifth
most aftermarket ones from summit and jegs offer them with slightly lower gears to take advantage of higher HP higher reving motors

the most common swap i have encountered from the public is useing 4cyl trans in V8 applications were the V8 came with factory 3.08 ratios and higher makeing the rear gears seem more like 3.73s and haveing extremely low RPMs at highway speeds or effortless high speed cruiseing

I agree with svoman.. not saying those specs above are wrong, but they are not the same as the multiple charts I've seen around the web.
