Winter Options

Winter is def coming it was really cold today and it got me thinking, last year i could barely drive my car at all when it snowed and i need it to get to work and school, so instead of paying 1000+ for a winter car what are my options for wheels/tires for the mustang? I have heard of the Bridgestone Blizzaks but thats about it. The cheapest i can find those are 150 a tire for 245's. I would use my stock GT ponies with these. Is this a good idea or would it be better to get some steel wheels say 15 inch or so and get 15 inch tires? I need a lot of info on this, sizes, names, widths, where to buy, etc... Thanks for your help.

Edit: do i need to get all 4 or just the drive tires, some of the websites say danger danger get all 4 do they just want money or is there safety issues?

You can use any wheel you want to be honest. Just it will cost more to use a GT wheel probably than a steel wheel. Either way, Blizzaks will probably due good in snow. My brother is using Bridgestone KDWS tires on his GT and he made it through the snow no problem.

I would get a set of V6 15" wheels. You can get a set of 4 for next to nothing.

WHen it comes to snow tires, you want the narrowest tire you can fit on the rim.

On a 15x7 V6 rim, you would want to run a 205/65/15 tire. This will keep your outside diamter roughly the same. You would actually be 0.7% off. (60MPH indicated, 59.6MPH actual)

15" tires are considerably cheaper than 17" tires...so that would negate the additional price of the V6 wheels

I used an old set of rims off a '94 LX I found on eBay and a set of Blizzaks some guy was trying to unload. My winter set-up ended up costing me $350 for both. Rims were 16's and work great.
