ive been searching around and cant find exactly how to wire a contour fan with a gold box. if you know where i can find detailed instructions and the hardware i would need besides the fans and gold box would be great. i would like it to keep the 2 speeds if possible.

I don't know the gold box but I'm pretty good with the Contour fans. I would think you will end up using the gold box to trigger relays to turn on the 2 speeds. If so, wiring for fans is straight forward and OEM reliable.
If the gold box has programmable outputs that switch based on temperature, then you are all set.
Here is how I wire up Contour fans stand alone. I just did this with my 2004 F150. I took a fan unit from a 2010, added the thermo resistor from a Contour fan and wired it up like I did on my Mustang.
The above is correct. You can use any of the high/low/injector outputs to trigger the high and low speed relays. The ECU will pull the relays to ground, the 12v side of the relay coil needs to fed from key ignition power or the fans will run with the ECU in the off position.

should i or can i use a soft start option? and i have no idea how to connect to the goldbox. i always avoid wiring but i need to get on the horse i guess. lol thanks for the advice!
ok i have done a bunch of research. what i think will work and please correct me if im wrong. i have 4ga wire to a dist block with 2 8ga wire with fuses to 2 rk330y relays. now i use 2 pwm outputs 1 for low speed and 1 for high speed. im going to use the pwm as a soft start for the fans. am i even close here?
Sure you can PWM relays but they wont like it... in reality you will need to PWM a SS relay.. the softstart can be achieved by using a resistor in the low speed fan and having it come on 5* before the high speed fan. This will let the low speed start the fan at a lower current draw [thats what the resistor is for the series resistance lowers the current draw] and the high speed effectively bypass the resistor.
No reason to make this more difficult that needed.
