Does anybody's wife or significant other worry about the dangers of convertible???

My girl is worried about my safety... she wants me around and basically gave me two options...

1. Full roll cage
2. Coupe

What are your thoughts on this... I think a full cage would look really wierd when the top was down

ionno... i need to hear some thoughts

The roll cage would look stupid IMO, and if you're happy with your vert, I'd keep it.

Or you could just install a light bar and I doubt she'd know it provided no real protection.

A roll bar is actually more dangerous without the proper safety equipment to go along with it...

1. Hitting any part of the bar, even with padding, is going to do some damage

2. Racing harnesses can help prevent bodily injury, but must be installed properly in order to prevent injury to the spine, etc.

3. Wearing a helmet on the street would look kinda funny

Despite all of this, I will eventually be installing a roll bar, harnesses, and seats. Will it help me in a roll over? Yes, as long as my head doesnt hit the bar.

As for the coupe...

Coupe. But I never really liked verts (in general). There are those on here that I love, though, such as Paul's car. I know there are alot of people that are the opposite .... they prefer the verts. So I respect that, cause it's on the same level.

If you want to keep it .... install a light bar and tell her the strongest steel in the world lies inside it. I have seen verts with full cages & I think it looks fugly. A local here has a Fox vert with a full cage that looks alright, but still not "great", if you know what I mean.

maybe the roll bar will be as far as it would go or who knows... maybe i'll just get a '69 fastback

Take her for a nice ride with the top down. Always drive like a grandma with her in the car. She will change her tune.

Get a crotchrocket. The vert will seem like a tank in comparison.

I think a vert (my fox is a vert) is safer than a Jeep or something. While riding in my bud's sweet Jeep (it is about 20' off the ground) we had the doors out and I almost got pitched out of the thing. The good thing is we were so high, I think I would have landed on the roof of the car next to us.

nope, i've got the cleanest history ever... no accidents or tickets (knocks on wood)

She brought it up because one of her mom's friend's husbands was decapitated when a car like ran over his convertible.... I really don't think even a coupe would have helped that much in his case, seemed like a pretty terrible accident.

I don't think I'm ready to give up the stang (i don't think I ever will), so I might convince her to just get a rollbar and follow ES STANGIN's advice on the safety with that

Wife hates the vert!

She hates the car, drove it twice last summer. She's got hair issues with the top down, gees wear a friggin hat! Now my daughter is crazy for the convertible, loves having the top down & tunes up. Safety what safety if I didn't own the vert I'd be riding a Harley! So the wife thinks the vert is safer in the long run then a Harley.

Never came up in a conversation. Reiterate the fact that the guy that was decapitated would have ended up the same way if he was in a coupe. Also reiterate the fact that the verts have a lot of extra bracing just because it's a vert.

I don't get the misconception. A coupe's roof structure isn't that strong; certainly going to cave in if the car flipped.

I don't have a vert but I will say this......You met me with the car/hobbie(sp?), if I have to choose you WILL lose. Compromising is one thing but trying to change you (through you car) is a whole new ball game. My future bride has excepted my hobbie (she's soon to join), and I can do what ever I want. In exchange when we buy our home I can't have any Pitbulls that biotch lol.

nono, she appreciates the vert, she loves the top down and even has been learning to drive it... i think i convinced her that the roll bar is good enough

so it looks like i'll be getting a rollbar with my tax return

i think she and her mom just got freaked out by that guy getting decapitated when another car ran him over... it happened like a month ago and her mom knew the man's wife
