WORLD CLASS to TREMEC CONVERSION?

The syncros in my borg warner are dumping, (jumping out of gear in 2nd). So it's rebuild time or it's upgrade to tremec time. Is it a pretty straight forward swap for a 66 fastback? Assuming it isn't (cuz it never is) is there much I can do to buff up my "world class" without spending 2k???

I'm in So CA and would like to stay reasonably local.

The Tremec is not going to fit in a 66 fastback without major tunnel surgery if you want it in there correctly, in fact if you used a kit to install the T-5 I am fairly conifident that it isn't in there correctly by my standards......but I'm not starting that again.

All I am going to swap about this swap...
I had to get a different cross member and a new driveshaft.
I think the new driveshaft was 3/4" longer more or less.

My old T-5 fought the good fight, but a few years of aggressive driving brought around the need to upgrade. Some say you need to modify your tranny tunnel to make it fit with a Tremec, myself I found changing the pinon angle of the rear end to work just fine.

is there a reason you want to upgrade the WC T5? If your motor doesn't need it... don't bother...

My HP is likely around 300 rwhp (last test was 282 before new beefier cam). Torque should be about the same. Since this one has died the good death, I was assuming that upgrading was a reasonable move. I'm also considering a little 100 shot of Nitrous (forged pistons and rods) for very very occasional usage and mostly bragging rights (though I have a buddy with an LS1 that is dynoing 351 rwhp that I'd like to make sure i toast).

With no juice I was assuming that I could get by for a year or so with the world class. With the juice I was thinking upgrade. But my knowlege is astoundingly limited.

My knowledge is also quite limited, but I think that driving habits and your plans have a lot to do with what you should put in. Are you going to put slicks on it, ever? Do you love to power shift? How gentle are you with it?

I think that the WC T5 might not be enough, depending on your driving habits. It's a good tranny though.

Great questions, mostly I drive it pretty conservatively. HOWEVER, occasionally I get on it. I also have a date with FAMOSO drag strip in the not too distant future (once I get my tire situation sorted out with nittos or some such superior street rubber). I assume that when and if I add the nitrous I'll have a week of being a bit of a boob and over using it (I mean why have it???)

So there you have it MOST OF THE TIME, I drive it like a tercel. Occasionally I get on it pretty good.
