I am currently drag racing a 68 Mustang and found a good deal on a 90 LX Mustang. It has a 2.3 liter, but I am interested in the body only. Would a hatchback make a good drag car or does the hatchback have a weaker body? I have never owned a late model so any suggestions would be appreciated. What are some important things to look for on this model?

If your going for an all out drag... Id look for the notchback. but if its a sweet deal....go with the Hatch...its lighter then the GT. just make sure you get some sub frames and tork box reinforements. body will twist pretty bad and the Tork boxes are just pinch welds. RIP up real ez with a tire and some motor.

Also, my friend started out w/ a 90 notchback, 4 cyl, and he did the conversion to the 5.0, and w/ ported and polished STOCK HEADS the car ran mid 12's, and the reason is because it weighed just over 2000 pounds, the 4 cyl conversion happend to be VERY light in weight.. he sprayed it and ran 11's, not sure if it was mid or high.... but if your going all out, do the same but don't put in a 5.0, put in a 347 stroker or maybe take your combo out of your other mustang and put it in this... just for thought...!!!

Yes. With a proper roll cage it won't matter that it's a hatchback.

I started out with a 68 Coupe. A later model Fox body Mustang is a much better platform for a race car. Much better traction, more drag stuff available, cheaper, you can put more tire under it....much better. Not a big weight difference though. You could really improve those 60ft's! The suspension is far superior to the classic Mustang's.

I have been to Sikeston, MO last year. It's a long drive for me......if you go to Dyersburg bring your mosquito spray they are really bad.

That's for the information!
