so cal
so my friend decided he needs to come back to the 5.0 scene and offered to trade my gt for his 98 cobra with 4:10s, DRs, headers, o/r x pipe, exhaust, and a vortech supercharger, so he wants my car and $6,000, the car has 130,xxx miles but i know for a fact he drives it like its stolen so i dont know how much longer the engine will hold up, does it sound like a good deal?

i dunno, for $6000 you could build an awfully sick motor for your 95

i'm building an extremely budget minded 331 and i'm only at about $3500. if i had $6000, it could easily make 350 at the wheels.

331 shortblock: $2000, afr 185 heads: $1500, intake: $500 ... that makes $4000 and you have $2000 to finish it off and put it in.

Ummm... it's a 98 Cobra. Just 3 years older than YOUR car. That and $6k?? I don't know what kind of shape each of these cars are in but it doesn't sound like you're getting much of a deal. For a trade and $6k, he better be giving you the keys to an unmolested Terminator.

Errr. I apologize. I thought you meant he wanted to trade you straight up for your car.

Yours + $6000 is a rip off! No way.

Like said, $6000 will buy you a sick engine.

So, I retract my previous post. Reading > Me.

For that amount I wouldn't. Mod motor cars can stand a good amount of miles though. BUT you said he drives it like its stolen. Well maintained mod motors can see 200k. Its the same body as yours and for 6 grand you could put in a push rod motor or even swap over to a 4v. I would keep your car and dump money into it. You know what your car has been through or atleast while you have owned it.

sounds like the public has spoken, i turned the deal down so now my goal would be to keep up with him which will be hard, ive seen him take down my friend's 04 cobra, we'll see how it goes hopefully i'll have heads and a cam by this winter

Yeah, the main thing you should be thinking about is what you could do with 6 grand to your car like others said. I'm gonna have my DIY turbo kit done and tuned for around $3500 so keep things like that in mind. For whats its worth my buddy bought a blown '96 cobra a couple years back that was in seemingly great shape. Older owner, and after a few months of owning it something internally blew up I dont remember what. So like you said, you have no idea how long it'll last. Sounds like a really fun car, but mod yours instead.

I read an article on the mod motor when the new blown mod motor came out with 390 HP.

Ford DEFINITELY beefed up the internals for a reason on the new factory blown version. They didn't say it wouldn't handle it but they were seriously concerned about potential engine damage for some reason, leaving it the way it was....I know they tested it at 390 and blew up a couple of them yet others were alright. So, I would stick with the 5.0.
