Well, my buddy who always had muscle cars bought a used 2006 WRX, STI. He gave me a ride in it and I have to say its one quick car. He wants to go to the track this summer and claims he will smoke me. I'm thinking it will be a close race. The only thing is those cars launch real good being AWD and 300hp.

Beleive me they aren't as fast as people make them out to be. I work with a guy that has a slightly modded sti and i smoke it on a daily basis. He always claims it's faster than my GT but when it comes to racing i always pull away and finish with at least two car lengths.

Always hear mixed reviews on the STi's. Tons of "damn, they'll whoop a mustang" and "i beat them every time."

What I hear the most is they cut like a 1.7-1.8 60' and trap at like 96mph. Stock, well driven.

I think probably, the people who think they're fast race em in the 1/4 mile, and people who think they're slow race them on the street to like 120mph.

Never driven one personally, or raced one, but I've seen them run. I can certainly believe that their drivers and opponents might get wow'd when the thing jumps out in front like they tend to do with AWD. On biased assumptions alone, I like to think of them as "launch queens" just as Supra's are dyno queens.

How much power do you think is at the wheels? They must lose a lot being AWD. My problem is I have no traction and I still lose traction when my car shifts into 2nd. I have to ease into it till I’m about 3,000 RPM, then I can stomp on her and she pulls like crazy (got to love Tim’s tunes over at MPH). I will be getting new summer tires soon (275s out back and 245s up front). I was also thinking of getting 4.10s but if I lose traction now, what’s the point.

I drove an STi for an hour once and it was unbelieveable! I'm guessing you'll need nearly 100HP in mods before you get into their neighborhood. They're very impressive cars for the type of car they are.

Is 06 the year that they changed up the headlights? The "new edge" style seem to be running from 12.9s to 13.2s at HRP. Those are the cars that still sound stock and look to be, and I imagine that they can up the boost pretty easily to get into the very low 12s.

I didn't watch the video (dial up :() though a roll isn't really their "sweet spot" by any means. That takes away the advantage of no wheel spin and actually hurts them since they have to power 4 instead of 2 tires:shrug:

You'll be playing catch up at a drag strip even if they can't launch all that well.

What are your mods if you are running with 05 GTs and taking AWD STIs

I lack a fast car--hell, anyone could tell by my times--though I know when I am at HRP and an STI/EVO is in the other lane that I get to see the tail lights quickly and the entire 1/4 :rlaugh:
