No offense but are you sure they were STis and not just the regular WRX? The STi is pretty fast stock and can easily be made faster...

14.3 at a track with a elevation of 2500 feet on a 95 degree day = a lot of mods on a NPI car.. you would be in the 13's easy at sea level

What do you have done to this car.

Just an 04 exploder(-70lbs.) 4.6 , 3.73's in a fresh dif, tune, x/exh. Wheels(-20lbs.) Dogbone removed(-8lbs). Otherwise full weight.+Subframe connector and stb weight(~+35-40lbs.). btw My times were bracket racing so I was also trying to stick to a time(w/2.2 60's getting me there consistantly).

Response to Killy. It was an STI, there are more STI's then wrx's around here. I see one wrx per 3 sti's.

ok thats a big difference, your a PI car now, in fact lighter because of the aluminum block.. you would be a 13.7-13.8 car at my track on a good day.

Scupking, your from CT, so am I. I have heard that WRX's have spanked a few 5.0 Mustangs down at the Turnpike. I still think they are ugly ricers, but they are pretty quik. The thing with those cars it a lot of horsepower, lite weight, & AWD. Harder for Mustangs to hook up.

Hey, that's my GT! :SNSign:

The STI in this video runs 12.78 @ 108.6 mph so it isn't slow even on highway. The guy has no problem with '99-'04 stock/stockish GTs.

Well, I believe Squares98. If he says he beats STis I highly doubt he is lying. There is a lot more to a race than simply the HP of the respective cars. Many factors are in play such as driver skill, tire condition, track condition. But we all know this

I work with a guy who has a real nice STi, I know its modified but he will not provide any details. We will probably race this summer at the track. It should be interesting. If he smokes me its gonna be a real problem for me getting teased at work...

KT That race should be even if you shift from 1st to 3rd. He would have to do some serious mods to get your stock trap speed. And yes conditions are all important. Im sure if I ran into a real racers, not just a spoiled kids, that i would have lost. Just like 99+ gts vary by a second depending on all the variables you mentioned

Well, my buddy who always had muscle cars bought a used 2006 WRX, STI. He gave me a ride in it and I have to say its one quick car. He wants to go to the track this summer and claims he will smoke me. I'm thinking it will be a close race. The only thing is those cars launch real good being AWD and 300hp.

you'll get smoked, easily.

mustangman666 said:
Beleive me they aren't as fast as people make them out to be. I work with a guy that has a slightly modded sti and i smoke it on a daily basis. He always claims it's faster than my GT but when it comes to racing i always pull away and finish with at least two car lengths.

unless you have some good mods, your car is not faster. the guy who has the STi can't drive.

squares98 said:
same here. I can beat stock sti's(from 5mph-) all day long.

not unless you are heavily modded.

has anyone here tried to launch a STI? They dont pwn from a stop - thier 60' are similar to ours. But that being said they arn't as easy to beat as this thread is making em out to be. I'd like the hear the mods you guys have, cuz just w/ full exhust they pick up 2psi

STi's are capable of much better 60' times than Mustangs. it takes drag radials on a GT with a good rear suspension setup to equal the 60' times the STi is capable of.

STi's are just like any other car. if you don't drive them right, you'll get beat by slower cars. the STi is capable of trapping 104mph in the 1/4. it's got close gearing. no near stock PI GT is going to take it with equal drivers.

As far as the newest STI's go.. a bad driver will hang with a great driver in a GT, given they are stock.

If you run 14+ you are not going to hang with the new STI, or the old STI. After reading this thread, I feel embarrassed about the lack of knowledge this board has on SO many topics concerning import cars. Do you guys just speak on what you THINK? Or do you actually go out and race these cars, and drive these cars? The new STI will NEVER see 14+ in ANY weather unless he misses a shift.

And whoever said that they arent that impressive from the launch should delete their account right NOW. These things are monsters, even stock, from a launch. I'm supercharged, and I run 1.9 60 foot times on my street tires, and I still get pulled 2 cars right off the bat from the new STI with minor mods.

I think there is a lot talking out of the ass on this board, it's ridiculous.

The strange thing about these STi threads is that there is one every two months or so... very strange...

Its funny though they always have their STi fanboys in them and they always show their azz. But they make me laugh so its def worth it

All we need now is another 350Z thread...

I don't like STi's, but they have no problem running low 13's possibly high 12's in the 1/4. Look at this site and compare a stock WRX STi to a stock Mustang. I've included two of each for the sake of consistency.

http://www.dragtimes.com/Ford-Mustang-Timeslip-4373.html

http://www.dragtimes.com/Ford-Mustang-Timeslip-9204.html

http://www.dragtimes.com/Subaru-Impreza-Timeslip-9631.html

http://www.dragtimes.com/Subaru-Impreza-Timeslip-10443.html

That is an average .5 second advantage for the WRX. Stock vs. stock I would put my money on the WRX.

My friend has one and he is actually selling it to get an 05+ mustang now...I have raced him with my car from a dig and from a roll... They also put about 250 to the wheels stock and have 300 at the crank. My friend has Greddy Exhaust and SPT intake. When from a dig he would only beat me by around 1-2 cars if that from a roll i would either be like half a car off his back bumper, but we stop around 100mph. That would be from pretty much any roll. Now when you are in the car they feel a lot faster than what they really are. I mean those cars are pretty quick but when i put my nitrous on he wont have a chance and he knows that...so that is just some information i have.

Maybe you need a driver mod. A Full bolt ons gt traps higher than a stock 06 sti(even with exhaust). And will run with one in the quarter on street tires. Ive never seen a stock sti run faster than a stock mach one at my local track.(btw what is your def of minor mods ona turbo car?)

Minor mods; exhaust, intake and a boost controller.

I feel confident when I say a 1.9 60ft is a very solid time with 18inch wheels, on street tires. Do you not agree? I'm not saying I'm an outstanding driver.. but I'm okay.

I didn't even compare a bolted on GT vs a STOCK STI. Where the hell did that comment come from? On top of that, it doesn't matter what you trap if you don't hook up and cross the line first. A fully bolted on GT will give the BONE stock 06+ STI all its got.

I mean i have been in my friends car numerous times and raced many other cars in his sti...would you at least agree that they do feel like they are faster then what they really are when you are in them?

Yes, they are a lot better from a dig then roll racing too but launching them takes practice as does launching any awd car and not actually bogging down...when my friend first got it he was horrible at launching but now he is really good and gets it to hook and take off everytime. He also has an 05 STI, i know the 06s are even faster.

Since I dont have a 4.6 and to tell you the truth i have never been in one and i only raced one once and it was pretty much dead even, (it was a 40th anniversary GT so a 2004) i will not put down if you win or loose because who knows until you actually do it.(but since you cant it will always be a mystery)
