As far as the newest STI's go.. a bad driver will hang with a great driver in a GT, given they are stock.

If you run 14+ you are not going to hang with the new STI, or the old STI. After reading this thread, I feel embarrassed about the lack of knowledge this board has on SO many topics concerning import cars. Do you guys just speak on what you THINK? Or do you actually go out and race these cars, and drive these cars? The new STI will NEVER see 14+ in ANY weather unless he misses a shift.

And whoever said that they arent that impressive from the launch should delete their account right NOW. These things are monsters, even stock, from a launch. I'm supercharged, and I run 1.9 60 foot times on my street tires, and I still get pulled 2 cars right off the bat from the new STI with minor mods.

I think there is a lot talking out of the ass on this board, it's ridiculous.

First of all I was under the impression we weren't talking stock vs. stock, second - over here at Infineon Raceway all the guys who I've talked to see 2.0-2.1 60's which is well within a modded GT's capabilities. I'd appreciate it if you'd tone down the disrespect, i don't see how an observation offends you, do you work for Subaru?

First, I wonder how many people here who have actually driven the STI or a WRX. For one the enterior is better. The se cars on average run mid 13's and some good drivers can pull off low 13's

The WRX and STI are different with different transmissions and engine output, etc. So you can't compare the two. Personally the WRX 5 speed tranny sucks as it is the same one in the foresters.

There are just as much Mustang idiots that show their azz(look at this thread for instance). Whether you like the car or not, stock for stock, they are faster from the factory, have a better interior, handle alot better than our cars.

they are very very capable cars in the right hands. low 13s are common stock with driver mod/isn't affraid to hammer it off the line

My 01 Cobra like to munch on STIs...have yet to lose to one, i did get my butt spanked by an Evo once though

On top gear an STI beat a GT500 around the track. They are really fast cars if they weren't so expensive and kinda ugly I would want one, I would much rather have a Mitsubishi Evo 8 RS.

A 2.0-2.1 60ft time with a stock 06 STI is terrible. I'm not offended in the slightest, just embarrassed, once again, at how narrowminded and ignorant some of the people on this board are about cars. Where are the CAR guys at?

guys i have to agree

the sti's are fast cars rigth out the box a friend of mine with an 05 sti and exuast and boost control runs 12.3-12.4's all day and this guy is not the best driver out there

and as far as run 14.s stock then the guy cant drive at all the car is a 13's car from the showroom floor

o yea he also cuts a sweet 1.7-1.8 0-60 on street tires

so i have no idea how so many stock gts are killing theres sti guys stock for stock not going to happen around here

+1

My buddy's 04 STI is making 456 awhp and hoping to crack low 11s this year. last year he was running mid 12's but he was about 125-150 awhp less.

The STI's big advantage is the launch. We were at the track last year and started speaking to a guy who recently purchased one. He was running low 14's all night. Problem was he was launching it like regular 2wd car.

We finally convinced him to drop the clutch at about 5 000 RPM . Low 13's. Stock vs Stock, no contest. STI wins. Modded from a roll the GT has a better chance. I wouldn't race one for money.

I mean i have been in my friends car numerous times and raced many other cars in his sti...would you at least agree that they do feel like they are faster then what they really are when you are in them?

i agree it can be a little decieving. they have very short gearing and that's what you feel, not so much the power.

Ok i have very minor mods done to my stang such as full exhaust, lowering springs, cai, recalibrated comuter, etc. Nothing major at all. This guy has an 04 sti with perin exhaust, and underdrive pullies. We race(on the streets not the track) at least three times a week and we've been doing it for the past two months. I have never once lost against that car. Almost all the guys at the garage i work at have raced his sti and NONE of them can beat the stang. When the snow goes away and it gets warmer we're going to take it to the track so i can prove to him he's slower.

He probably doesn't launch right. With those mods, he shouldn't lose.

Driver error all the way.

I beat an STI last summer, but only because I was getting better 60ft's than him. My advantage was gearing, and drag radials. I was running 13.0's and he was 13.1's, and he was actually gaining on me at the other end of the track. The guy couldn't believe I was beating him in the 60 ft. The advantage of being all wheel drive can sometimes be a disadvantage... For less than $1000 we can throw in gears and drag radials and better alot of faster cars in the 60 ft.

2006 STi = low 13-second car! More than a match for any stock or basic bolt on Mustang....save for an '03-'04 Cobra or Later DOHC based Mustang. Anyone who states they're taking them with ease....or at all with a basically stock Mustang is talking out of their ear!
