WTF!!!!!Broke my rear axle!

Ok the name on the axle part that is broken off is called tha axle tube. Looks like a clean cutt all the way around, out about 6 inches from the gear housing. Looks like it can be slide back into the gear housing or welded but I'm still getting another put on. Any advice?

If you are a good friend, you won't make your buddy pay for anything.
Because that was going to happen regardless, just be lucky it didn't happen to you while you where driving or at a stoplight.

Get the housing out of another mustang, should be pretty cheap, then build it up from scratch.
Eaton posi (if it's in your budget) 31 spline axles, new gears, and all new bearings.

If you are broke for the moment, just take the new rear you get from the junk car, and run it as is.

If you decide to build one up, pay to have it assembled by a professional, you don't want to invest a grand in the rear and have it eat itself because you got the tolerances wrong.

Sorry for the confusion guys but yeah it's the actual rear end housing cracked about six inches from where the gears sit. You can actually see the wheel axle through the housing. I need a complete rear end. I will get pics as soon as I can to show it better. Will the ford explorer rear axles work. What's the best ford to get a rear from? How hard is it to do? Thanks for responding so fast. Thank you all......Now that I can think it was better to happen at home than on the road.

Adding to this last sentence, there was no blame game only the shock of the break. I think this would be a normal reaction for anyone who don't have a lot of money to spare and a big family to care for. My friend has two businesses and makes over 100,000 a year and is single. He's getting the rear cause that's the person he is not cause I hounded him. My plans were to let the car sit (hence the reaction) for a couple months till I can get it fixed. He didn't want that and said he was going to regardless of what I said. I helped him in difficult times and he helped me. Please don't turn this into a "IF YOU ARE A GOOD FRIEND" thread.

Sounds like nothing actually broke but more like the axle tube pulled out of the center section. There are only a couple plug welds that hold the axle tubes in, for a car that makes some serious power you can stick the assembly in a jig to hold it square and have the tubes welded all the way around. Since you are going to be replacing the Assembly, I am with the other guys and suggest that you snag a 94-98 GT and you will have 5 lug and disc brakes!

That's exactly what it looks like.. Can that be fixed? And thanks guys for the ads!

To go with a rear disc set-up gets a lil involved, but nothing that anyone with a lil bit of mechnical skills can't handle. I wouldn't think twice about it. There is a sticky on here I think, or do a search for 5 lug conversion.

you have to think about new rims and tires as well. that will be around a grand depending on what you want. i bought all the parts from a junkyard for 200 bucks. All i need is an aftermarket portioning valve, which is roughly 40-60 bucks and i'm set, the only thing keeping me from doing it right now is the fact that i need to make sure i will like the rims i buy and coming up with the money :D
