I installed my off road x-pipe and a set of Warlock mufflers with the built in cut-outs.I did have regular old turbo mufflers and the factory h-pipe with the 4 cats hollwed out.The car is quieter now than it was before.I was hoping for a rumble. It sounds fair when you mash the throttle hard, but I expected more.I also upgraded to 2 1/2 inch pipes.Oh well,Like them or not, they'll stay until the need changed again.

I have ported and polished E-7 heads going on in a week or so.I have the heads, now I need the time. They'll be much better than the stock '86 E-6 heads.Anything would be better than those E-6 heads. It's running very strong, but there's always room for more power.

Good flowing heads + a good cam will change the sound of the car like night and day. The difference when I did h/c/i in sound from stock with off road x was more than going from stock H to off road x.

I can send you video if you want.

Aliate X,please send it.I'm very limited to cam choices due to my flat tops.I'm hoping that the stock '86 cam will work well with these ported heads.Any ideas?I appreciate the help everyone.

I had Warlocks on the '83 for a couple years. They are very quiet when they are capped. Not loud enough at all. If you want loud, then uncap them :D I went to 2 chamber Flows also, which made a huge difference. Much louder all around

I really don't want "loud",But a nice deep tone.I should've got Borla mufflers. My friend has them on his Ford truck and they are great.Oh well, they stay for now,my money is now obligated to getting the gaskets and fluids I need to swap my heads.I'll uncap the warlocks and see what they sound like.

Flows are considered all out loud now? I went from flows to Mac and it got louder. Then went to Spintech and got even louder. Unless you mean 1 chamber flows, Id say they wont be the loudest...

My dad added Hooker Max Flow mufflers, which you can see through, no chambers. We expected it to be really loud, and the car was quieter than the Macs he had before. Your best bet is to go out and find the right exhaust you like the sound of at shows, or events. Ask around and see what you prefer!

I agree with 25th, 2 chamber flowmaster is not loud.

Dont warlocks flow good though?

Hey 25th, just with deleting the a/c running a 74.5" shortbelt, and highflowing mufflers from flowmasters, i picked up 2mph in the 1/4 mile.

Getting rid of the AC helps parasitic loss (some) and the mufflers Im sure helped a little. If the conditions were the same I could see gaining some. Personally I never saw a bigger gain than my exhaust, but I think there was more to it than what I saw!

Borlas have a very deep tone, with the cam it sounds awesome.

I dunno flows are pretty loud, the 2 chambers and such arnt that loud, but it seems when you star tpushing some power, they get a really nasty tinny sound.

I agree spintechs are almost like open headers, its like if someone wants their car to be so loud, why not just run it open headers?

There is a difference between loud and annoying and loud and good. I ran open headers for a bit before I got my exhaust in (by ran I mean moved the car from the garage to the driveway to work on it) and although it was loud, it didnt sound all that great. I added the exhaust I have now (LTs, o/r X and spintechs) and although still loud it has a raspy pissed off sound that I love.

Just making a car loud is one thing, making it sound good and loud is another. Personally I would say check into Bassani, or Borla if you have money!

I have a Bassani Cat X Pipe with 2 Chambered Flows Cat Back and while my car sounds really good, its just missing not being quite loud enough.

I'll give it time,I'm patient.I did delete the A/C and smog, and I am running the 73.5 inch belt.I'm really wondering how much power the ported E-7 heads will give over the stock E-6 '86 heads. The E-7 heads also have beehive springs and different valves.Don't know what size, they were all done before I bought them. The machine shop said they will work with my flat top pistons. That was my biggest concern. He said don't push it over 6000 rpms.I told him that for now, that wasn't anything I needed to worry about. He also said that with those springs and heads,my throttle response was going to be wicked.I hope he's right.I really like this Thunderbird.I wanted a Stang, but after I drove this '88 (19 years ago),I fell in love. It's 3200 pounds and feels great, plus, anything that go on a Fox Stang fits my car, except the driveshaft, aand the exhaust needs to be about 6 inches longer in the middle.Great car to surprise ricers with.

Maybe this is why I've never head of them. If you guys really think 2 chambers aren't loud, you're crazy. Of course, if you have CATS, then that makes a huge difference. My stuff is all off road and you can hear me coming miles away.
