Never been to a track. We used to have a drag strip here but it closed in 2006. The nearest track is an island over and it'll cost about 400 bucks both ways to ship my car, not counting the 200 or so for a roundtrip plane ticket.

See. The cost of living isn't the only thing in hawaii thats expensive. Its the racing too!

I look forward to the day when i can take my fox or any other fast mustang i decide to buy down a drag strip.

Sounds like they're just asking for people to street race to me.

It always blows me away the way city officials preach about wanting to crack down on street racing, yet they make it nearly impossible to build, or keep a local track open in order to keep people off said streets.

Funny thing is, the person that was leasing the land was a legislative representative. The state fined him for not having adequate plumbing and restroom facilities. Then, he decided to default on the lease. Since then, a grassroots organization here decided to make a raceway on leased land from the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands. Its basically a dirt 1/4 mile and a dirt circle track. I went once, and it was boring. Who wants to drag race in the sand? The people want a paved 1/4 mile. Hell, even an 1/8 mile would be good enough.

You forgot the emoticon that indicates sarcasm.

My point was, most would trade being able to take a car to a drag strip for the confines of a Hawaiian island any day of the year.

And

Evidently, if you want it bad enough, relocating is that simple.

I love beating those jerks in their worked over diesels at the track. I've never seen a guy with a bigger chip on his shoulder and mouth to match than I do any random idiot of this crowd. They're like ricers with high testosterone and money.

I remember one event I was at with my Cougar a few years back. This Duck Dynasty looking douche in a Chevy Duramax was kicking and crying because I hadn't lined up beside him at any point during the competition.

I really didn't know any better, as we had 4-lanes going and started with a field of over 220-cars. It was just by luck of the draw he and I kept missing one and other. Claimed I was "cheating" by ducking him and taking extra cool down time between runs. Keep in mind....I didn't know this guy from Atom.

So, the next time we pulled up to the staging line, one of the cowardly official took us out of order to force us to line up (never mind the upset that caused with some of the other drivers). If he wasn't mad before, then he was outright furious when I cut the better light, beat him to the finish line and eliminated him from the competition. He went back to pits, pouting and swearing all the way, threw all of his stuff into the back of his truck in a fit of rage and peeled out of there.....leaving a soot cloud all the way home.

I didn't come in first that day (4th actually), but shutting his smug mouth and sending him home with a skinned knee was worth more to me than the prize money on that day.

I have to say, I'm stunned. I don't mean that in a condescending way... there where just some people in here who I thought were old school drag racers.

Anyway, my first pass was at Kil Kare Raceway in Xenia, Ohio back in 1992. I was in my 88 LX 2.3L 5-speed. Ran 18.4. Seriously. They timed me with a sundial. My fastest pass so far was 9.50 @ 155 a couple years ago. Obviously not a full pass.

I don't consider myself a street racer, but I've raced on the street a lot more than I've raced on the track. It's just less hassle. And before anyone says anything, I don't race in traffic, drunk, with my kids in the car.

Trust me. No amount of sun, beaches, nature and hiking trails is worth the insanely high cost of living.

Tell that to the people in NYC.

No Sun,

No Beaches,

No Nature or Hiking trails.

1 million dollars to live in a 900 sq ft condo w/ a balcony overlooking a mugging.

I've actually run that track....I've got to think it's really gone downhill since they early-90's when you ran it. Was looking pretty ratty back in '08?

I ran it back when I first had my Cougar running at an event there. Hadn't even dyno tuned it yet. Drove 11-hours there, averaging 26mpg, threw the drag radials on, ran it all weekend in the 90-degree heat, then drove 11-hours home without a hiccup. Wish I could count on my Fox being as reliable.

I was 15 years old no license, my car (same 89 I have now) was bone stock AOD, 2.73 gears, dynomax mufflers and went lower 15s (15.3 rings a bell).

I remember my first pass with a 5-speed on ET Streets. I had sun glasses on the dash shelf. They went past my head and I missed second. Cut a high 1.8 60' and loved it!

Its been too long to remember my first trip. I started going when I was 17 and would run my 88' Camaro with a 305 almost once a week. It was a solid 16 second car haha. That was the beginning of a long road. Mustangs followed and here I am 14 some years later and have been as fast as 8.12 in the Mustang I currently own.
