help needed...tire rub in a bad place

i have a 65 coupe with 17x7 4.5bs, 225/45 tires on the front. shelby a arm relocation, 1" drop 620# springs which have been cut down some. i rolled my front fenders but im still have some rubbing issues when turning. the front edge of my tire, about 3/4 of an inch inward on the tread, rubs the very corner of the fender. has anybody delt with this problem before? any sugestions? do i need to cut some out of the fender? thanks

last question, if you get a chance at some point, can you measure from the center of your front wheel to the fender? and then PM it to me. i would like to compare it to mine. your cars stance is perfect. thanks for the help

somewhere between 0 and -.5. i dont remember exactly but i went with the shelby drop street specs.

im not gonna have that measurement for a while, i just pulled the engine.....sorry

I had the same problem. I thought I was going to have to cut the fender when I realized the problem is that my lower valance had been pushed up due to me pulling up too close to a curb. This caused the valance to bend slightly and put the corners nearer to the tires.

i'm having the same problems with my front tires. i've decided to go from 225's to 215's up front, that will hopefully solve the problem.

Wow this morning you guys are hitting on some of my same isssus. I had the same size on mine and just went down to a 225 on the front because I couldnt get it straightened out. I found that the drivers side was far worst and called my alignment guy and he said that the left tracks just in front of the right? Anyway heres a pic showing how far mine was sticking out of the fender.

Your spec of 0 to -.5 sounds like camber. 2BAV8 asked about caster. Pos. caster pulls your wheel toward the front of the wheel well. There is usually some stagger to help with crowned roads (keeps the car going straight when the shoulder of the road slopes down to the right). If you have an adjustable strut rod you may have dialed in too much caster and backing off would move the wheel back in the wheel well.

If you have an adj. upper control arm (e.g., TCP upper), then it is also possible to misadjust the control arm to move the tire forward. This can happen if the forward shaft of the control arm is mistakenly made shorter than the rearward shaft.

If you have stock control arm and strut rods, then ignore all this.

they are the stock strut rods. i replaced the bushings about 2 years ago, they look to be in good shape still.

upper and lower control arms where also replaced at the same time, but with stock replacements, not aftermarket tubular/adjustable/etc.

Is it possible you drilled your holes for the Shelby drop 1" down and 1/8 forward? I have 17x8, 4.75 BS, rolled fender lips, 245/40x17 tires, no rubbing at all.

i just checked what shelby drop, i know i went 1" down, but i cant tell if i went 1/8 forward or back....im leaning twords forward...but its hard to tell with the wheel and control arm on....i think i need to take a closer look at that....i feel kinda lame right now...

I would take a look at that as well- it was close when they were on my car, but I never had any problems with tire rub there- I would say there was a good 1/4 of an inch clearance when they were on my car-

dont feel lame- when you redo your ignition system, new distributor, wires, MSD box exc, and your car doesnt start, you spend 3 hours trying to trouble shoot, only to find you forgot to put the rotor on inside the distributor- then you can feel lame like I did-
