Need a little HELP with Timing

Ok so i have a 98 GT that i was replacing the cams in and i was using the Anderson Tool to do it but my friend that was holding it let it drop and i think the chain has now skiped a tooth.

how do i go about degreeing the cams?

I have rotated the engine by hand but it stops a little was through a turn so i figure the valve is hitting the piston.

Anyone that could give me advise or links through searches would be helpful. I'm am just not finding or searching the right words to find what i need.

No i got ticked off and left everthing where it was. That will be the next step.

ok once you get that done the crank and cam sprokets should have a mark on them and you put the one link in the chain that is of different color on them and then it should be fairly close to being straight up

ok so i don't have to go get a degree wheel and dial indicator and all that stuff, just a harmonic balancer puller and replacer then line the different links up.

Are the links painted or are the a different metal like brass or something?

Is this the stock shortblock? What are the specs on the cams? Need some more info, then I can help.

Stock 1998 shortblock non powered pos, stock heads. Just changing the cams out with PI cams and updated PI intake.

If you cannot hand turn the crank at least 2 revolutions without hitting something, you are probably having PTV contact.

thanks thats what i needed, a link or info is just right, i figured i have ptv contact, just needed more info on timing the cams with the crank, but found out that there are two links of different color that i am suppose to match up on the keyway and the cam gear

Just delete the stars in the web address and replace with modular depot.

if your chain doesnt have markings, you can mark a random link with white out or something that wont rub off easy... then hold that link with your thumb and fingure and hold it up.. the link at the very bottom is where the other dab of white out goes.. now you gots yourself some new links....

Timing is a pain in the butt when your doing it for a first time... just take your time and check over everything many times...

I think it is because of some sort of "politics" between the two sites!

Like forum155pl mentioned, the factory hypoid chains have copper end links. It's hard to tell them apart from the rest of the links sometimes, especially if the chain is dirty. Once you find them, it's a good idea to mark them.

That's weird about the link being "bleeped" out. I guess maybe it's for legal reasons.
