Tuning a 289 w/ Edelbrock with an A/F meter?

Anyone done this? I searched and didn't find anything on it. This is just a wild idea of mine. Can I set up an A/F meter (2 actually, since I have straight through dual exhaust, and I'd like to know what's going on in both banks... (should be the same, but you know these cars...)) and then meter it as I try different acceleration patterns?

I've been trying to tune my edelbrock, and while it's good, I was thinking this might be even better. After reading the theory of edelbrock carbonation a few times, I think I have a little bit of a handle on it. there are around 6 phases.
idle
accel from a dead stop (handoff from idle to primaries)
cruising (no idle circuit)
accelerating from cruising (avoid stumbling)
hard acceleration (hand off from primaries to secondaries)
WOT

the fuel mixture should be the same (optimal burn) throughout the acceleration process- I think.

anyone have a comment on this thought pattern? jikelly?

Also, any advice on a/f gauges? seems to be the O2 sensor type, and maybe others.

innovate motorsports wideband kit. the edlebrock will be somewhat problematic in super fine tuning, in my experience, as compared to a holley. This tool will let you record and playback your afr vs. rpm, as watching a little gauge with numbers and bars will be hard to help tune.

I have the Edelbrock A/F meter. It gives some helpful info but I don't know that it was the best idea. What mods, cam, carb size are you running? I mave have a similar set up. I am interested what you end up with.

+1...get a wide band and have the bung welded in. DO NOT get a short band....it is absolutely worthless. If you want to do two...just weld in another bung and swap back and forth. Although, I dont know what you could do if each bank is different.

I plan on using a wide band to tune my speed demon carb.

Wow, that piece from innovate motorsports is nice- bit pricey, but it looks like you get what you pay for.
For those that have done this- do you have to weld in bungs close to the engine- or can you meter at the tailpipes?
The reason for checking both sides is that I might have an issue with a valve in one of the banks.
Any cheaper ideas? I've seen the 'measure the voltage from a O2 sensor' but that's too cheap & crappy! ;)
Would love to rent one of the innovate motorsports units. Might have to 'ebay rent' one of those.

setup:
early 65 289, A code, edelbrock performer & 1406 600cfm, Tri-Y's, Melling R/V cam, auto.
