Guys,
I installed my new tranny mount today. It came from Autozone and is the rubber/steel unit for $13.00

I put it in with no problems, but when I let her down off the jackstands and sat in the drivers seat the tranny had lifted 1/4 of an inch and pushed the shifter leather boot and plastic trim panel off the consol. I tried to mash it back down but the hurst shifter stop screw is hitting the trim piece not allowing it to go all the way down.

I realize that my factory mount was worn, but damn! Why is this doing this?
I rechecked my part numbers and even called Kevin at energy suspensions to confirm that the mount should be 2 5/8s " tall for the T5 tranny.

Every other parts store says the same also.

So I am pretty sure I have the right piece, but why is my shifter fitting like **** now?

If anyone has experienced anything remotely like this please chime in. I searched til I was blue in the face, but found nothing.

Thanks

Mike

Autozone..... First mistake
Why did you call Energy suspension about a autozone part? But that is weird.... My only guess is that your tranny mount has to be wrong... what else did you change when you swap mounts? Anything that would make a difference?

my pro 5.0 used to do that too. the nut on the 1,3,5 stop was up against my trim piece so that if i hit a bump, it would pop the trim piece off in the top corners. it did it so much it finally wore a groove in the trim piece so it doesn't pop it off anymore. also, i went from a stock tranny mount like the one you just installed to an energy suspension mount when i put my rebuilt t5 in about a month ago and it sits at the same height still. its weird, i had the same setup on my old coupe (t5, energy susp. mount, pro 5.0 shifter) and it didn't sit this high at all.

Thanks for the reply...
I went to autozone for a replcement cheap part that I figured would be the same or a little better than the factory worn out unit.

After install and removal 10 freaking times and getting very upset I decided to call ES to order one of their pieces. Kevin asked me did I have the rubber piece near by and I did. He measured the height of his poly mount and to ld me it should be 2 5/8s inches tall. If mine were taller then it was a wrong part. Mine was exactly the same height as his mount so we both hung up dumbfounded. I made sure that I have a T5 tranny and everything.:bang:
Also just to let you know that you have really two options if you want a rubber mount. Ford $55 or parts store $12 so thats a no brainer. and suprisingly the quality looks better and thicker than the factory piece that came out.

Thanks a bunch to you Cenok is family
as your reply helped me understand that it is a common thing for aftermarket shifters to hit the consol. My tranny mount was so worn down that it dropped it 1/2" or more so it never hit. I just put the shifter on last year and the tranny mount has been on there from the factory in 93. When I put the new mount in there it raised it up and now hitting causing me to think I had the wrong mount.
