yeah, but, throw a turbo set up on that shelby and its a whole different ball game. they need forced injection to keep up with a N/A mustang. notice they didnt run it against the GT500.
i have a base GT that wasnt anywhere near 40k. give me FI and different suspension. i'd kick that STI's ass for less than $40k. a buddy of mine has a Mazda Speed 3 turbo... kicks my ass all over town, but he will tell you comparing FI lightweight cars to N/A HEAVY cars is no comparison. Lets see the STI against the Mazda speed 3 and that is an apples to apples comparison. plus how much is left in that 4cyclinder? i betting they are pretty much to limit the shelby gt is only a cold air kit and a tune away from a standard GT. PLENTY left on the table
i'll get some things straight here, seeing as i own both a GT daily driver, and STi track car. (And its THE track car for a good reason)
How much is lef tin the 4cyl? well, if you want to spend 5-8grand, you can bolt on and tune about 500AWHP. which would be a rough 600hp at the crank. That's border line of destruction.
as for a suspension. well. i really don't care much for the mustang's turning ability. my sti Wants to corner. It's kind of like when your going around a corner and you get the urge to drift in the stang - so you do.. and its fun as hell.
the sti wants to corner, and while it is, your chest is against the door so to speak.
When the sti brakes. Tremendous. Right from the get-go. the brembo's have amazing feel, and the balance is pretty much on spot, and the chassis follow's through throughout the entire corner.
mustang.. lol, well - i don't know if you can consider nose-diving as effective braking.
so - 2k for the suspension. 4k for the brakes... Are we on par yet with the subi in price? I won't really include the better chassis design, or more responsive steering, as well. you can't really do **** to change either. an all options come standard on a STI..
mustang - poor man, go fast. they give you the option to have cheap performance.
im sure if subi designer's wanted that, they could include hand crank window's, cheap carpets, a plastic steering wheel, handbrake and shifter and plenty of other POS items that should be in a kia. but well they didn't.
well.. it is a hundred or two pounds lighter - even with an awd system.
there is No Funny **** going on when i say that off the line. an sti IS stunning. If you don't bog down, it could be the true definition of a launch.
now to compare a shelby and an sti.. that's as idiotic as comparing a ferrari to a shelby.. Their both in different classes. If you want to spend 10k on the sti, it could walk a shelby around a track. if you want to spend 10k on a shelby too, then you walk the modded sti.. Get where i'm going?
Hands down comparision.
