Rear 8.8 axle bushings...which ones

Hey guys, redoing my 8.8 axle. I'm going to replace the two top bushings. My question is what's a good set to go with for a street car with emphasis on handling? I want a nice tight ride, but no noise or extreme harshness.

What's good to go with?

Stock SN-95 Ford bushings. They are rubber and a little stiffer than the Fox ones.

Good for a DD like application.

If you check Max Motorsports web site, they only reccomend the stock Ford upper rubber bushings

If you are talking about the uppers on the diff I'd go with the rubber ones for the later models that you can get from Ford or Maximum Motorsports. They will work nicely. Don't forget the removal/install kit Maximum sells for them or make your own. It will make replacing them much easier.

I used the Cobra/SN-95 bushings on the axle side and QA-1 rod ends on the other side. I wanted just a little give.

I just ordered stock replacements from AutoZone..( I know, I hate Autozone, but they stocked them) They were cheap and my car rides really nice, no noise at all.

A friend bought some all aluminum hyme joints or whatever they were, and he tore the **** out of his torqu boxes. Car rode terrible before that also....don't go that route.

Their street uppers are just stock arms with Cobra/SN-95 bushings.

When i replaced my rear LCA's- I went MM lowers and cobra upper arms and ford racing bushings. (your right) I replaced the quads as well. The car is super tight today, it was a good choice. The upper bushings are stiffer than stock fox bushings.

You won't be dissappointed. I installed a set of typical upper and lower arms with the poly bushings and the car was down right dangerous to drive. Snap oversteer is scary stuff.

I pulled that stuff out and replaced it with the MM lowers with shperical bushings in the lowers and the ford "stock" arms up top. At the same time I replaced the axle side bushings with rubber units from MM. These are just factory replacements. No more snap oversteer but the road noise is increased from the solid "bushings" in the lower arms.

Can i just "refurb" my stock uppers??

Can i sandblast them, box them up, powdercoat and install new Ford bushings?

yes you can. There is really no need to box them especially since you'll be running the rubber bushings. Personally I would not spring for the powdercoating. I like rattle can black paint from ACE hardware.

Yeah, on second though, i agree with you. Just a few coats of paint.
