boosted stock 5.0

think i remember my tuner talking about running a stock one at 14lbs on a T trim before something let go. id say 14lbs on a S trim with a good tune would be safe...

I had a feeling you were gonna mention HP Ranch. I've heard he's the only guy to go to for tuning around here.

I'm sure he can be part of the reason your stock bottom end has held up so well this long. Haha.

I will definitely attribute some of the success to him, however, I only found him about 1.5 years ago. Worthy of anyone having him tune your car and he just quit his day job and went full time so if you're close to this guy, I would definitely have him tune your 'stang.

im not absolutely dead set on an s/c but im leaning that way due to tuning simplicity, and i definitly dont plan to skip the tune. not really interested in messing with stand alone and what not.

ive already got full exhaust and have a 75mm tb/spacer to go on whatever i end up doing. i figure that the stock intake is so ridiculously restrictive that id be an idiot not to put an aftermarket one on there.

i could be wrong but i figure that with 42# injectors, 255 pump, pressure reg. and the whole blower/ IC set up i should be good to go. just didnt want to spend 2kish and end up with a sub-par blower, just need to do more research i suppose
compression/leak down testing will be done, no sense in putting the effort in for it to blow up on me :nice:

thanks for your help

You could always sell the headers/midpipe to get some cash back towards the turbo kit. I can tell you because I've had both, this is how it went.

Bought SC-trim kit from superchargers 4 less
Put it on car, made me sad(I was 16 too!!!, and it still felt horrible..lol)
Spent a bunch of money on upgrades(converting to 8 rib, 8" crank "race" pulley, UPR boost master pipe, #42 injectors, fuel pump, "aluminum" discharge tube for the blower, new belt, etc)
Drove the car for a few months, still felt like a dog to me
Pulled the blower off and sold it all for $1200(nice big loss on my part)
Started the turbo build and never looked back!

BTW, you shouldn't need a AFPR as long as your fuel system is up to par. Good luck!!

I don't know man. I wouldn't push it over 8 myself. I blew out both head gaskets with my stock set up Supercharged, it was at 6 psi. Also had cooling issues once I supercharged it too. It is a personal choice. If I had to take it all back I would start with heads and a good cam.

Head gaskets dont blow by themselves 95% of the time there is a good reason they fail.

I had 2 blow on me on the same cylinder before i figured out that there was poor machine work done on the block itself. If you prepare yourself to run boost and do it right its not a problem, but any type of power adder is going to magnify problems

I think we have the same history as thats the SC I bought, I just stuck with it and have a ton invested to be where I am now. I found a way to reach the limits of the stock block with the SC, but would have LOVED to have gone turbo long ago.

I can tell you from expierience that you will have just as much headaches with a cenrti and less fun
I have to disagree with you for the first time. Bentley had 2 different blowers on his car before the turbo. We bolted them on, got it tuned and hammered down pretty much. All he did was drive it. A turbo car basically lives on jack stands for a looong time before you get it straightened out, unless you've built one or two before and have learned what it takes to make it work right. I also gotta throw in there the car was A LOT more fun with the blower, but a lot faster with the turbo...

People have been well into the 9s with turbo stock motors throttle body to drain plug. I've even seen one do it with a 5 spd.

I have had a blast with my S/C for sure and have been thinking about going turbo so please, by all means elaborate on what you mean by more fun compared to a turbo car.

I'd also like to know how the turbo's more fun. Do you think that the auto had anytihng to do with the fun factor?

10k, full kit plus injectors maf, anderson boost pipe, SCT chip
2 different pulleys, everything needed for $1750. just wondered if 10k "high mileage" for a head unit

Thats a decent deal depending on the details of the kit... ive seen S-trims sell for 1k before(i'm assuming thats an S-trim), what injectors? If they are 42's your good, if they are anything smaller dont bother.

With the blower and a 5spd on good tires the car was just so violent. It was still very fast, and just a lot more fun. It just seems like you're always waiting with a turbo. I just like the violent explosion when you crack it in the blower car.

I dunno man, every turbo car ive been in had pretty little lag and i gotta say that when i had a blower on my car it was like anything under 4k was way lazy, i dont have either problem with my current setup though :D
