so ive changed my mind yet again (the longer i wait to start a build, the more i change my mind). wont go into to much unneeded detail but how much boost can you SAFELY throw at a stock 5.0 with stock e7s, stock bottom end, probably upgrade the intake though. i know theres a lot of guys on here with S/c'd cars and am just curious.

That really all depends on how well the car will be tuned. A crappy tune can make 6 or 7 psi dangerous.

I would say 8-10psi on a 100% stock longblock.

not big on the FMUs, id rather go with 42#s and an SCT chip (fuel pump etc. as well). would that be a fairly safe way to go?

If you are planning on running something like 10psi. Then yes, injectors, pump, and a chip are going to be needed.

I would even go and have the car put on a dyno, and tuned by someone that is known for having a good backround in mustang tuning.

any recommendations on a charger?
i like the prochargers as they are self lubricated, but ive noticed the novi 2000 seems to be the top of the line, but if im going 10psi tops, dont want to buy more s/c than i need

You need to decide what your future plans are also. Do you plan on going with an aftermarket block late on down the road?

If I was going to go for a budget stock block setup. I would just find a Vortech S trim. You can easily find them second hand for cheap.

id love to say ill be grabbing an aftermarket block down the road, but i honestly doubt i ever will. going to school in august (high performance) so itll all happen WAY down the road but right now just looking to break into the 300s.

anything in particular i should watch out for when buying a used s/c?
sorry but im lost when it comes to power adders besides nitrous which is on it currently.

Well, always ask for the serial number on the blower. You can call up Vortech, Procharger, Novi, etc, and they will be able to tell you how old the unit is and if it was ever sent in for a rebuild.

Other than that, after buying a used head unit. I would look into sending it in to the company for a rebuild if there isn't proof it was done recently before the sale.

thanks man i appreciate the help

Boost is just a number, don't worry about it! Are you dead set on a supercharger? You can buy a used turbo kit for not much more and you don't have to worry about buying headers/midpipe like you would with the supercharger. Plus you wouldn't have to worry about replacing belts, buying expensive pullies to make more boost, etc etc.

I would go around 400-425rwhp with the car and enjoy it. You're smart for wanting to stay away from the FMU, good move...don't even think about using it. Also, don't think about not getting a tune, if you're spending that much money then spend the extra $500 to make sure it runs right. The only mod I'd make would be a aftermarket intake on it, I wouldn't change the throttle body or anything else either...waste of cash. If you already have it then that's cool but right now worry about getting the blower/turbo/fuel mods/tune and you'll be set.

Good luck!! FWIW, my bone stock 5 liter made 357rwhp with 10psi from a SC-trim without a tune. Off the charts rich, probably would of made 375-400rwhp with a tune, it even had 2 1/4" factory catback on it too.

-Edit-
Also do a compression/leak down before installing to make sure the engine is up to par. I would almost suggest you pull the heads off and go ahead and put in good headgaskets/ARP studs when you changed the intake. Wouldn't be much more work at all and the engine would be ready to serve you for a long time if everything else checks out.:flag:

im not absolutely dead set on an s/c but im leaning that way due to tuning simplicity, and i definitly dont plan to skip the tune. not really interested in messing with stand alone and what not.

ive already got full exhaust and have a 75mm tb/spacer to go on whatever i end up doing. i figure that the stock intake is so ridiculously restrictive that id be an idiot not to put an aftermarket one on there.

i could be wrong but i figure that with 42# injectors, 255 pump, pressure reg. and the whole blower/ IC set up i should be good to go. just didnt want to spend 2kish and end up with a sub-par blower, just need to do more research i suppose
compression/leak down testing will be done, no sense in putting the effort in for it to blow up on me :nice:

thanks for your help

check that link i posted that guy is doing it on the stock ecu, no chip even! i think thats awesome, he has a wideband just to watch the AF ratio i think.

Small turbo and 14psi, dont waste your time with the centri stuff

60mm Turbo ,Stock 5.0, AOD, 1/8 mile passes

I thought about doing this to my hatch and seeing how fast i could go on a 100% stock longblock.

see thats the kind of thing that makes me reconsider. guys got $1800 in a car with 10 sec capabilities. just not looking to get in over my head as everything is easier said than done

i hear ya but thats bout as easy as it gets, flipped shorties cheap IC, just throw a set of cometic gaskets on the heads and a set of studs

I can tell you from expierience that you will have just as much headaches with a cenrti and less fun
