TIRE QUESTION

I had a large screw in my middle tire tread and went to a tire shop and they plugged it.Will this hold up?

JUST KEEP AN EYE ON THE PRESSURE THE NEXT FEW DAYS...I CAUGHT A HUGE SCREW IN MY FRONT TIRE W/ THE 19" WHEELS ON MY 2010, I GOT IT PLUGGED AND IT LASTED JUST FINE TILL I SOLD THE WHEELS... AS LONG AS IT DIDNT DISTORT THE BELTS/CARCASS OF THE TIRE..THAT COULD CAUSE VIBRATION AND EVENTUALLY A TIRE TO LET GO...IF IT HOLDS AIR, AND DRIVES FINE..DONT WORRY ABOUT IT FOR NOW, AS LONG AS YOU DON'T TRACK/AUTOCROSS THE CAR..THAT COULD MAKE THE REPAIR HAVE A MORE LIMITED LIFETIME..

I once had a large screw in my tire. I had it plugged and it held up just fine.

Ive never had a problem with a plug. Like undisputed said, keep an eye on it though. After a week of normal driving if its fine then dont worry about it.

There is a type of plug that looks like a patch with a stem. They take the tire off the rim and put the stem through the hole and seal the patch down with glue. Then the excess is trimmed off the outside and the tire remounted. This is a better fix. Stabbing a tire with that sticky string IMHO should be considered a temporary repair and the procedure is outlawed in most European countries. The tire heats up quite a bit when driving on the highway and can cause the plug to fail leading to a blow out. Thats the last thing you want at 70 MPH. My advice, patch it correctly or replace the tire. Good luck.

yeah, this type of patch/plug is better..anything where the tire is dismounted and cleaned and then patched from the inside is better, but I honestly havent had a problem w/ any patched tires, so long as they done corectly and they were strictly on the tread portion of the tire, and as long as the belts arent pushed outta whack by the plug. But yeah, that type of patch/plug is a more sturdy repair...

It really is best to have the tire removed and patched on the inside. Plugs are "iffy"
