Will 18x8 rims fit in the front on 1964 1/2 ford mustang

I don't see what your problem is. Everyone on these boards makes suggestions. You voice your opinions too. I know you havent cared for me much since the whole HID debate, but the whole purpose of these forums is to share ideas etc. Whats getting old is you always wanting to make it a point to disagree with me when it comes to most of the topics about modifications. If you don't like what I have to say just read past it instead of dragging it out. Thats not helpful either.

I just thought he would be better off not going with 18s that will pobably have clearance issues. I never said he couldn't do it. I just think that if something probably won't work well and it looks wrong, then why do it.

Let me jump in too! LOL! I understand both side of the arguement... and the guy really did personalize his comments with things like "for me" and in my opinion" so He's not one of those haters that has his head in the sand. Lighten up on him a tad.:rolleyes: My car has 18 by 8's front, and 18 by 10's out back. 4 inch b/s on the front and 7 out back... IN MY HUMBLE OPINION the secret to balancing larger wheels with sthe style of a vehicle that wasn't made for them is in the stance, wheel clearance to the lip, and overal style and appearance of the wheel itself. Trust me, if I ever see a "donked out" Mustang I'll puke on the spot ( hopefully on the car) but I have no issue with somebody engineering their way to sporting larger wheels and tires..... if it's done correctly. My 18's came from necessity, I'll be making big power and torque, and I want the silly thing to stop when I want it to, and how I want it to. Big brakes are a must, and they dont fit with small rims.The pics I've attached are a tad fizzy (sorry) and older; since then I've narrowed roe rear axel, mini tubbed, and keep in mind this is a full frame car now, and definitly NOT a stock suspension platform. 18's come at a hefty price, both in regards to time and fabrication/ expense. but if your project dictates a larger wheel and tire combo, then follow your gut.

I like 15" wheels on early cars no matter the make, but the reality is there are not many choices for performance tires. Stance is what makes it work, but some of the cars with 20" or even bigger do look cartoonish. I am also not opposed to anyone doing anything to their own car. People should do what they want and not care what anyone thinks.

kttrucks i like what you are doing to the car. I need to lower mine now and think i will do the shelby drop when i do lower it. I am also thinking about mini tubbing so i can run the staggered rims on the back which is 18x9.5.

Like you said, if you dont what you read, just dont even post. Regarding HID's , you dont like, thats fine, nobody is forcing you to buy them, but they will still be bought

Again you said, you THOUGHT he would be better off because of clearance issues. Not the case and this would be from experience, not guessing.

My point was anytime someone wants to do something YOU think is dumb or whatever the reason, you make sure to tell them. What you think looks wrong might be right to them, simple as that.

AMAZING. I'll be doing the Pro-Touring/G-Machine route on my 66 and am look at different ideas. I love the big wheel with huge brakes look. I'm still on the fence if I want 17x8 all around or bump up to 18s. I don't want wheels that are too small then the car looks too long and thin, but then I don't want to go too big then it rides like a 4x4. Also, do you know the suspension of that car? I love the stance.

i think i would like it better raised an inch even with the back tires, that thing is way too slammed.

to tx, you know i got no problem with you i think you're a cool guy, but to a point telling someone that 18s look silly just isn't going to change their mind.

i would personally go with 17's because the 16's i have rub slightly on the UCA at full left or right.


those 18's looks pretty sweet for sure tho.

To answer the original question:

18x8's will fit with the correct backspacing. It's the rubber that will cause problems.

Having said that, general opinion is that when 17" or 18" wheels, you need to lower the car a little to make it look right. Lowering it makes clearance even more tricky.

I'd be tempted to go with 18x7's on your car. I personally like a little sidewall bulge both for looks and to protect your rims. Lots of these pictures show beautiful rims... until you get a little too close to the curb when parking one day.

IMO 18 rims with low profile tires fit better than 17 rims with mid-profile tires. This is because 18 rims will clear upper A arm at a higher distance than 17s, thus rims may have slightly higher backspacing and lesser chance that fender is hit when passing through a bump. But this is for 67-68, and I now realized you want it for 66

I’ve a 66 coupe and just installed new rims from 2014 Gt stang today, 18” 8, 44mm offset, with 235/50/18 tires. It’s definitely touching somewhere, didn’t get a change to look where yet. Anybody have a chart of the clearance ? Wondering if grinding or rolling the fender a bit would fix, or if I reached the max back clearance and just have to get other rims , which truly sucks because I love the look a lot. Thanks
