I installed the PI cams and intake on my NPI heads about 2 years ago and I was happy with how my car performed until I bought 18 x 9/10 FR 500 wheels. Now it feels like I'm riding 5 deep w/ a bunch of fatties :)

I'd like to buy some ported PI heads along with new cams and was hoping some of you could give me some input. I've been looking around at heads and cams for a couple of years, and I think I've decided on MHS stage 2 ported heads and the 2.5P PI cams.

Does anyone have experience with ported heads from MHS or the cams? It looks like the stage 2 heads and 2.5P cams from MHS will give me exactly what I want. I have not been to a drag strip yet (closest one is in Brainerd, MN which is 2 hours away from me), but I'd like my car to have more midrange torque along with more top end.

I sent Nick a PM, so hopefully he'll have some input as well.

As for the TF heads, they are 2 grand and the stage 2 portings from MHS are only 1200. For 2 grand I can get the new heads and cams from MHS and still have money left over for a tune.

Would I need new injectors and/or a fuel pump with around 300 RWHP? While in there I'll probably replace the timing gears and chains.

I am thinking trick flows heads and their stage 2 cams. Hot rod just did a junkyard jewel article about a H/C/I swap. They claim 453 HP on an engine dyno. If the parts in their list are accurate, they used the wrong size sparkplugs and lost power from lowering compression and less than ideal spark location. Not bad on a junked NPI shortblock.

NPI heads can handle much more aggressive ICL than pi and it allows for smaller LSA's as well. As far as Intake flow numbers in ported form, I have and continue to hear conflicting claims. In reality, max flow is a pretty useless number. A competent combination of flow and velocity is much more important.

Ported NPI flow more then Ported PI I believe, but dont quote me on it...

I've heard conflicting claims as well, although more often that not I hear ported NPI out flows stock PI, while ported PI heads outflow ported NPI heads. If anyone has more information about this I'd like to hear it, because then I would consider having my stock castings ported or perhaps buy MHS ported NPI heads.

Looks to me like the MHS stage 2 heads have a relief cut into the intake valve allowing for more aggressive cams, too.
