Tolerance, old Age? (or both)

I can work on a car all day as long as i'm upgrading something. When it comes time to FIX something, that's when i get tired of doing it. I get sick of trouble shooting things, sick of chasing gremlins, sick of doing jobs over and over. I still love tinkering when i buy something new but that's mostly because i want to see the pay off from running new parts.

+1

It started for me around 25. I got sick of FIXING cars.

The Mustang i view as a hobby. It hasn't been a DD for years so if something isn't right, it can sit for 2-3 weeks til i get motivation to do something to it. But for the most part, i just do upgrades which keeps it in great shape.

But fixing cars...ugh i hate it now! Why i started buying newer cars with warranty. Would rather have a $200-300 car payment and a warranty and just hand the keys to the dealer and get a loaner when something breaks. My DD just went out of warranty...so back to shopping for a replacement to get back into a car with warranty.

I will admit though, i do all my maintainence because paying the dealer $500 for something i can do for $50 and 2 hours of labor is silly.

I'm 69 next month and have been swinging wrenches and drivng truck (Retired Trucker now) for quite awhile,
I love my Mustangs and still love the feeling I get when I'm in them. (Foxes)
With 3 foxes in the yard last year I wondered why am I wrenching all these bloody cars and a boat to boot.
Sold the boat, sold the 81 3.3 Fox coupe and the other 81 fox parts car.
Kept the 88 Fox and my winter car,Momma's vibe and now I'm much happier, less stressed and get more time in the 88 followng my nose down the highway.
LOVE IT !!!!

Good to hear! :nice:

I turned 40 this past august and have lost some of the desire I used to have when it comes to starting a project on one of the cars. Once I get started though I am motivated to get the job finished. Last time I changed the spark plugs in the 86 my legs were sore a couple days later and I did not know why. Is it possible that my memory is going too?

As you get older you need better tools to compensate for lack of desire and the abundance of lazyness.

4 post car storage lift would be nice.

I'm going to hit 31 this year and I noticed I've been complaining to the wife a lot more about wanting a lift. Gotta stop buying car parts though.

Couple weeks back I spent about 6-7 hours leaned over a fender trying to trouble shoot a new carb on my Dodge (bad carb, doh) and the next two days my lower back was ridiculously sore.

Great thread. :rlaugh: Just turned 41 and I can relate.

Oh my goodness, you just nailed it. Unfortunately it's been quite a while since I upgraded anything on either car. The only time I'm under the hood is to check fluids or fix something. When something does go wrong I'm thankful that I have two decades of familiarity to fall back on when troubleshooting.

It started for me around 40. I still enjoy working on the cars, but now I have to psych myself up to do it and I'm usually sore as hell the next day from bending over the engine or crawling under the car all day.
Right there with you. I don't mind so much working under the hood. Once I drag myself out to the garage I always end up enjoying the "me time". Still, aside from changing the oil it is a serious drag having to crawl underneath. I can't say I feel any soreness but it's still a PITA.

Pinched nerve. I get the same thing when working overhead for too long but im only 40.

This chick I know busted my balls for getting an automatic after I got rid of the 5 speed. At this point theres alot to be said for an auto with a shift kit.
