Build Thread Finally! 89 Notch 2v Swap Progress Thread Project: 89mach1

This is still my favorite build thread. Now that the tank is in & pump is on, Im really looking forward to seeing a video of it running. If you ever have plans to be in the columbus ga area, I would love to see that thing in person. Awesome work & keep the pics coming.

Can't wait to see that thing in paint! Every time I see it I'm impressed:nice:

Hopefully, I'll start seeing real progress next week. The only panels that need work is the roof (just needs sanding and priming) and the hood ( have to weld the old holes shut for the old monster scoop and body work them, and sand & prime it)

I'll shoot the whole car in primer by end of week for block session 1.5, Then prime it again for blocking 2.0 and finally, it'll be ready for the jambs to go red

Thanks! Maybe you can help me get the video done. I only have a digital camera, but it has video capability. I'm sure the sound quality will be as worthless as that little mono mic in the camera.

I cannot see any reason I'll ever be in Columbus ( unless I die and end up in hell, er Columbus)

But maybe if you're ever in Birmingham:thinking: I'll buy the beer:cheers:

I did the video for my (Idle, Rev & 2 Step) clip with my digital camera. I dont know if its my laptop or if the mic in the camera isnt that good. Let me know when you get it running & I will have to go on a road trip. Im not dead yet so I guess Columbus must be next door to hell lol. As for buyin the beer, Only my car gets to have alcohol. I'll have a soda with ya though. I'm a big sissy lol.

Just stopped by the paint shop this AM. The painter is being Met-ic-u-lous!:nice:

I thought that nothing was getting done, Wrongo! they have fixed a dozen spots I missed or hadn't got to yet. The roof is sanded, as is the hood. It's all masked, and up on jackstands. It has one door off, and the other will be removed after they prime the body and block it . :)

Well once you get it all done, it's the way you want it, are able to sit back, have a beer, and breathe a sigh of relief......

I'll come rumbling down your driveway to hit you up for help on mine. :D

good to hear they are making good progress. Mine has been 1 step forward & about 3 steps back. For example, my air filter box concept, while in my head, seemed great but, after I built it. It looks plumb retarded. That was a waste of about 20 bucks. Im really looking forward to making a road trip to see thing when you get it back and are ready to show it off. On a side note, I told the guys at work about the CAMARO being a small vicious animal that attacks & eats mustangs. Lots of laughs were had by all.:)

Welcome to my world.

Wouldn't be the first time I had to do something over,...remember my nickname is "Do it twice Mike""

Sometime in mid July then?

But it isn't a small vicious animal......It has no literal meaning. The French derivative means comrade.

Chevy was probably too embarrased to tell the reporters where they got the inspiration for the actual name, so they made that **** up instead.

I know that you said that camaro was taken from a french word and that its not really an animal. I told the guys at work the whole story. I was just trying to shorten things up for posting here. I should not have assumed that everyone has already read the huricane story. Sorry for not quoting you correctly. I plan on going to the 1/8 mile track over in Al. (just to watch :() around mid july as my birthday is the 16th but, I have every other friday off from work. I'll PM you closer to that time to see what best fits your schedule.

wow. i just read all 11 pages and wow. no build has ever caught me like this one has. all i can say is wow. this is amazing. i am actually thinking about taking body classes, maby you can teach me?? haha

Well I am certainly no expert. As a matter of fact, this is the very first time I've tried my hand at all of the metal fab work. I have done some small bondo stuff in the past on one or another of the 14 project cars I've had since 83. but as testimony to the fact that I had to turn the current project over to a "real" bodyman, (and he found a bunch of little details that I had missed) I can't call myself one of those either.

Although I wonder what I'd be able to do had I went to a Wyotech or some place like that?????

Now......... Dumbass, Smartass, Buttlips, Chicken Choker, Dumb MonkeyFighter, I can call myself ALL of those.:D

So does this mean we'll see paint pics in about two weeks?

*rubbing hands together anxiously*

Ya know, I was thinking....what pictures would I release now that the car is moving along towards this anticipated completion, I'm thinking nobody sees it until it is fully striped (w/ the mach 1 stripes) and detailed. ( I just don't want to deal with the "I liked it better" stuff I may get by showing it before it's completely 100% done.

I've seen in in light grey primer ( No pictures) I will say that in light grey primer, the headlight buckets finally stand out and look amazing!
That whole front end is the "money shot". I was there Friday and the thing is smooth as glass already, and we have a second primer coat to go.

The painter won't get back at it until the 6th, and I'll be gone from the 7th - 10th, so I don't think it'll be in color until the third week of July. I know that he'll work on it w/o me, I just don't know if he'll go at it as dedicated when he knows that I'm not working on his car for those 4 days.

The biggest issue for me right now are the terrible 1/4 windows. The molding is so brittle it cracks, and I am tapped! I don't have $300+ to buy a new set. I've been hoping that somebody finds a way to make the covers look good, but I always hear the same negative reviews. Soooo...

I want to take it to the Woodward dream cruise in August, I just don't know if I can justify 4 days round trip for one night. I DO know that I have to find some national venue to take it to to get it exposed if I ever hope to see it in a magazine.
