And you didn't call me why?........To think....You were so close you could've touched the G monster....

Believe me, I was thinking about the Monster when I took that pic. I had a 3 hour drive to Moulton to pic up a trailer, then 3 hours back. Including the 1 hour time change, I had 15 minutes to spare in my schedule to make sure I was at home when my little girl got off the bus. I'm afraid there was no time for the Monster.

well as much as it would've made the monster happy,..family is always first.

Ok.. I was close to biting the bullet and driving the car in to work today but thought better of it.

I still have a couple of small checks/ items of concern to cover before I commit myself to possibly being late/not making it to work should I have another fuel related issue.

I get off at 2:30 today.

I'm checking/servicing the filters one final time. This time I'll pull both of them (I've always only pulled the 100 micron inlet filter, and left the 10 micron outlet filter alone.) This afternoon, they both get looked at.

I'm gonna pull a couple of plugs. Since the engine saw 18:1 AFR under boost, I want to make sure none of my piston is on my plugs.

My oil vapor catch can is actually dripping oil from it. Firstly, That is because the stupid drain petcock "T" is just spinning, and won't let me loosen or tighten the thing to a closed tight position. The greater concern however is how much oil is in there. Keep in mind that this would have to be pretty dedicated oil here. It has to travel straight up and into a 90 degree -12 fitting....then horizontally forward 2' to a bulkhead fitting, then another 20+ inches to get to that catch can. Just thinking about it,...I guess enough oil "vapor" should/could eventually condense back into actual oil eventually. In actuality it should be a white/chocolate mess that is typical when water (vapor) and oil mix .... Nonetheless, anything more than the little puddle that has managed to drip out of the catch can is of concern to me,..and that'll require I remove it for inspection. I guess the auto-hypochondriac has to have something wrong doesn't he?

Maybe it's worse than that.....Maybe I have "Car Munchausen's disease".

This is the mental disorder w/ some people that actually do sht to make the people they care for sick, and keep them that way so they have a purpose in their nut case lives......

Maybe I subconsciously messed with the tune and leaned the engine out on purpose, then I'd have something that needs fixing?

Oh the horror....I have CMD...

Well alrighty then....

Both fuel filters were acceptable. I cleaned them nonetheless. The inlet filter had small metal shavings from drilling the rivet holes, and the outlet filter was dirty. I cleaned both of them and put it back together.

The oil vapor catch can had been catching way more than vapor. There was probably 1/3rd of a qt of funky seafoam green slime in there...I removed it, emptied it, and cleaned it too. While it was out, I crimped the T bar that lets you open the drain petcock so that it would stop spinning. I reinstalled it.

I pulled three of the six plugs and they all looked as good as you'd want them to. Black ring,..brown insulator. No sign of heat,..no specks of aluminum...Hard to believe that the engine was at 18:1 under boost..

Turns out it probably wasn't.

Collaborating w/ The Wisdom toothless Florida boy,...we modified the tune to fatten it up. I increased the fuel in the boost part of the map by 35%. Even this was considered "not fat enough" when you employed the discrepancy calculator that VE analyze recommends.

I took the car out and data logged three separate pulls.

Now under boost,..the AFR went off the charts,....the opposite direction. This time,..on three consecutive pulls,..the engine went fat. We're talking 8.9 :1 fat.. That's Like Fat Albert fat,.....No scratch that,......That's Jabba the Hutt fat,..

I brought the car back, called toothless, and we talked. The only thing that was "off" before was the fact that #6 was loose. It was still snug against the head, but I was able to loosen it by hand. Maybe,..compression was getting past, and air was probably getting in?

We put the tune that was in it back. Now, It's back to where it was, and I'm driving it to work tomorrow....o_O

Shall we say a little prayer for the Monster?;)
