If you go to Autozone and ask for an idler pulley they'll sell you one that's smooth with edges on it like the original

Whenever I buy a tensioner I get them to let me swap the edged pulley for the smooth one. They don't sell a tensioner with the proper pulley.

This pulley is the reason a bunch of folks loose belts at high rpm. The belt tightens and walks off at the tensioner.

See...I'm good for sumtin ...

Soo for the next few days I am in class with EPRI to get my cert to teach instrumentation.... what a first day....

Anywho this morning I snapped this pic, opinions please.

there's lots of room between the belt and water pump pulley so no issues there. I'm holding an idler pulley, my thought is adding it there. Possibly setup as a manual tension.

Will the belt contact the ac pulley enough in this configuration once I have it back on the car?

The a/c does not have enough load to cause belt slip. There will always be a bit of slip on gear changes as the mass of the blower rotors wants to keep going at peak rpm when the engine drops down in rpm due to the gear change. The slip is very momentary, a fraction of a second or so.

I like that belt path better BTW, and I'd try to put that idler as far inboard and as low as I could get it to create the tightest wrap around the crank possible.

Dear God my head hurts..... trying to get certified to give part b instrumentation exams.... My head hurts....

I wish my training director would have said "hey they are going to come in and test the living :poo: out of you with practical exams"
I would have made time to review the bench instruments I haven't seen in 2 years.:nonono:

It's ok I have 600 pages of review documents I have read over the last 2 nights.... just a short refresher....:bang:
