Beers Of Stangnet

I'm a little slow in replying to this.

The staves are added after the initial fermenting. You can do the same for homebrewing. You can buy bags of those oak barrels that have been shredded into strips. Sounds silly, but it'll give your brew that whiskey twang.

The problem with beer is that it's not strong enough in abv to kill off the bad things that would make it skunky. Putting it into an actual whiskey barrel would ruin the beer.......and that would be alcohol abuse.......we'll have none of that here.:D

A few things to add. . . AB-Inbev is brewing batches of this beer in multiple hundres of thousands of barrel runs, it's just not feasible to run that through 60 gallon bourbon barrels. It may beer near impossible to even get that many used barrels. So simple soaked wood chips is the way to go.

I doubt that they are too concerned with the bugs from barrels since the beer is pasteurized. Also, bugs won't make a beer "skunky" as the only way for that to happen is introduction to light. They will however, cause many other flavors that would be considered "off" for that style of beer.

I happened across this imperial stout today by the left hand brewery.

Very nice, I can easily see buying this again. Great nose, classic stout flavor. Tough at 12.1 abv I'm only good for two and a half and several hours sleep, then the other half.

Admittedly, one makes a guy feel pretty darn good!:nice::cheers:

Cheers y'all.

Nothing terribly special about it. It's your average Octoberfest beer. I'm starting to feel like once you've had one Octoberfest, you've had 'em all. There really isn't any particular one that stands out to me.

Sam Adams Winter collections are out! :nice:
Winter Lager cases are on the shelves, and the Winter Sampler cases. The Sampler now features the Sam 76, which I missed when it was out before. Looking forward to trying it.
I will be buying a case of each every time I go to the store now, those two always vanish too soon! ;)

Hadn't had a new imperial stoudt lately that I'd recommend until I got this one from Weyerbacher a couple weeks ago. Kind of has an interesting name (Finally Legal) but is definitely worth a taste if you're a fan of imperial stouts.

-Pours black, no real head except for some slight lacing
-Smells of alcohol (bourbon/rum like), roasted coffee, vanilla, chocolate, raisins, caramel
-Tastes just like the aroma, well balanced but very complex, some smokiness taste to it I didn't smell, alcohol is well hidden
-Very full bodied, doesn't hang on the palate to long like some other imperial stouts. Low carbonation.

Overall a great imperial stoudt IMO. Very easy to drink, not too boozy tasting, and complex but easy to handle flavors. My girl even really likes this beer. Be careful though, it is 13.5% abv, so it does it's job quickly. Especially when you're working on your car, welding away, and don't realize you've just had 5 of these over the last couple hours......

Yeah, I got to try to get some.

FIVE! The only thing I would be doing under the car after five of those is drooling on the floor in my underwear waiting to wake up and wonder where the hell I am and why does my mouth taste like sht!

On a related note, Mum and I went out to dinner last week. I ordered the KY Bourbon Barrel Ale, because I haven't had that in a long time.
12-oz draft serving. It had been a strenuous day of work, and that ale was just what I needed. Polished off the first one and barely noticed it. So I ordered another to have with dinner.
The second one hit like a sledgehammer! Had to give Mum the keys to drive home, cause I sure wasn't in any shape to drive! :O_o:
Totally worth it! :nice:

I caught myself laying on my creeper, underneath my car, staring at the floor pan for what must have been 30 minutes. I'm pretty sure I was thinking of some really great ideas.

But I forgot them all.

Got a new one from Founders. Curmudgeon's Better Half.

12.7 abv, so it's a full beer. It has quite the maple taste to it. I actually kind of like it. If you don't like maple, it may not be for you. The alcohol isn't hidden in the flavor either, you taste it. Again, not much a problem for me:D.

I don't mean to say it tastes like Aunt Jemima's and you'll want to soak a pancake in it or anything (although........:chin).

Here's an Imperial Porter. It says with coffee and vanilla flavor, and it means it. Fairly strong coffee flavor sweetened slightly with vanilla. It's not bad if you like coffee, kind of makes me think if Starbucks sold a beer that this would be the one. Lol.

10% abv, a solid buzz beer with a couple down. A little heavier than a stout on the carbonation, smaller bubbles. Not champagne bubbles (champagne makes me gag). It doesn't produce much of a head even though the co2 level is higher.

I'm going to start rating my beers according to my taste. One through five thumbs up. Of course this is totally subjective to my taste. I'm a lover of stronger, fuller beers.

If y'all want to join in the ratings do so just according to what you feel about the latest offering. I've had a few based off of reviews here.

This beer will get a three and a half thumbs up, I'm not sure how to bring up half a thumb though. So it'll "appear" like three in the case of this one. Three because I can't say I would recommend it despite the strong coffee flavor. It's good, but you got to like coffee to really dig it.

Here's a somewhat local brew. Totally unremarkable. It's a stout. Kind of weak in flavoring, a "stout light" if you will.

It smells like a weak stout. It has the stout scent, just not strongly.

Pours without anything resembling foam. No lacing, nothing.

If you have someone offer you one, it's worth the free beer to drink. I will be able to drink the other five of it's friends, even without wincing. I just won't buy it again.

I'll give it two thumbs up since it's 9.0abv and isn't making me sick to drink.

Another Imperial Stout. Out of california this time, maybe you guys will be able to find it.

This is a very nice stout without being noteworthy to individual flavors. It's a full flavored delicious beer. I will buy this one again. Though pricey at $14.25 a six pack.

Fully worth it's four thumbs up rating though.
