Beers Of Stangnet

A new one from Eviltwin Brewery for me. It's called Even More Pecan Pie Jesus.

Another fantastic stout! Just a mild pecan flavor to it with the usual outstanding Stout base. YUMMMMM!

It looks like tar and tastes like beer heaven. It's a mild 12% beer:D

Had a cookout over the weekend and ended up getting pretty nicely restocked...

A friend brought over two 12s of the Blue Moon Honey Wheat (he said it was on sale) and another friend left behind some of the BL Lime (nevermind that...). Never had the Honey Wheat before but thought it's pretty good. I haven't drank anything from Blue Moon in a few years.

Being Oktoberfest time I thought I should give a different to me OFB (oktoberfest beer) a try.

Lately I've grown sick of IPA's, so you would think a nice malty OFB would be the cure.

I'm such a baby, I want some hops, not too much.....just right....

Lol.

Anyhow, I tried this Great Plains OFB. It's slightly different. I'm not sure the exact reason why. I'm usually good at picking out the different grains and hops. I haven't developed the pallet for the differences in yeast yet though. Maybe that's what makes it different, a different lager yeast?

My review? It's a very good OFB, 5.2 abv.

BTW, my credentials for judging OFB's include attending five Oktoberfests in Munich. So I know my OFB's.

This one is worth trying.

Last note, Oklahoma has finally leaped into the 1980's and will have coolers in liquor stores and sell high point beer and wine in grocery stores! Yay! We're big boys now just like the rest of y'all, lol. Or at least we will be as of October first.

No pictures to share...but the fridge is *full* of beer after this past weekend.

It started earlier in the week. I work in IT and all last week I was helping one of my end users move over to her new office and get everything set up. She had some other requests after the initial move and I took care of those for her. Thursday rolls around and she asks what I like to drink on Friday nights. I know what she's getting at and I just say "You don't have to do that; I'm just doing my job." She insists so I said I was pretty easy to buy for...some Yuengling or Sam Adams or the like. After lunch on Friday I walk back into my office and see a 12-pack of Heineken in a bag on my chair. Not particularly crazy about Heineken, but I certainly appreciate the thought.

So that's one 12-pack.

On Saturday I was having another gathering at my house and needed beer to make some brats. I grabbed a 6-pack of SA Octoberfest for that...put 2 aside for the brats, had the other 4 for drinking. The girlfriend also needed additional beer for the gathering...she had 4 of her Michelob Ultras already in my fridge, but wanted another 6 pack "just in case."

+10 beers in the fridge.

The guests for the gathering also brought beer for me. One brought a 12-pack SA Fall Sampler for me and another 12-pack of Michelob Ultra for my girlfriend and they also brought some Smirnoff Ice for themselves (that got left behind), another brought another 6-pack of SA Octoberfest and a 6-pack of Blue Moon Mango Wheat (first time trying that, I rather enjoyed it).

+42 beers for the fridge.

So, overall my fridge acquired 64 bottles this weekend. About 12 or so were consumed since Friday evening so I'm probably sitting on around 52 at the moment. Two of the 12-packs are actually sitting on the floor, yet to be stashed in the fridge because I just don't have the space in the fridge available.

C'mon over y'all...

I like the SA Fall Samplers! The darker ones are my favorites (of course!), but some others aren't bad. The Spruce Ale is ... interesting. I wouldn't buy any by itself, but won't throw it away, either. The Pumpkin Ale I actually like, mostly because you can't taste any pumpkin in it! ;)
I also tried the Budweiser Copper Ale. (Aged in Oak bourbon staves. Not "barrels," just "staves." wtf??) It's good, I'll probably get some more. Not nearly as good as Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale- that stuff is great! (but expensive!)

I haven't had a lot out of this year's fall sampler yet, but I did try the Spruce Ale the other night. I thought the same thing of it. Of course there's the Octoberfest in it that carried over from last year...I'll have to see about the darker beers. I'm not typically crazy about darker beers but one of the SA dark beers from last winter(?) was rather surprising. So we'll see!

Found my new favorite Lagunita's beer last night. Picked up a six pack of this stuff not knowing what it was, wish I would have picked up a case or two. If you like Lagunita's beer and the familiar "Lagunita's hoppy nose" you'll want to try this. This stuff will creep up on you considering how drinkable it is at 8%.

Picked up some Yuengling Golden Pilsner and Flying Dog Dogtoberfest this evening. I've had the Dogtoberfest before so I know what I'm getting into with that...but haven't tried the Yuengling Pils yet so I decided to give it a whirl. It's the first beer I'm having of the two right now and I gotta say that it's pretty good. Nice, cheap beer. If they keep it around it might be my new "go-to." I think I like it more than their lager.

I'll be going camping this weekend so needed to pick something up for camp. I'll take the Pilsner with me since they're just twist-offs.

I'm a little slow in replying to this.

The staves are added after the initial fermenting. You can do the same for homebrewing. You can buy bags of those oak barrels that have been shredded into strips. Sounds silly, but it'll give your brew that whiskey twang.

The problem with beer is that it's not strong enough in abv to kill off the bad things that would make it skunky. Putting it into an actual whiskey barrel would ruin the beer.......and that would be alcohol abuse.......we'll have none of that here.:D
