Saw this pic, didnt know where to share it. The fox 5.0 limo

lol If i remember right that was used in the movie Jerky Boys wasn't it ..

Enjoying my new radio and enjoying finally everything working great for the most part. Then halfway through my cruise it started getting hard to shift into first and second. First was almost impossible, second I had to keep jamming into gear. I did a little online research and I'm going to start by changing the trans fluid. I noticed while I was under the car there was some trans fluid where the drive shaft meets the transmission, so I hope I dont have a leak. But this leads me to my question, is the transmission supposed to be hot? I'm sure it gets hot while driving but it's been sitting for about an hour and the underside is still hot to the touch. Also I feel heat coming from the shifter area while I'm driving. Is that normal?

(Pic of the drop of red trans fluid I saw near drive shaft)

I had the same leak. Dropped the trans, pulled the tail shaft off, had a new bushing pressed in, changed the rubber seal. No more leak.
I did all that in the process of doing flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, u-joints etc.
There’s some good online vids of removing the tail shaft. I bought the bushing and brought the tailshaft and bushing to a tranny shop. $30 bucks and they had the bushings changed out.
I imagine the intense heat is due to low fluid, so I’d get on right away, before it becomes much more expensive.

Was trying to change the fluid today, but the drain plug seems like its welded on. I cant get it off, and I only have pretty basic tools but I may be able to use an impact to get it loose. Thanks for the info, I'll have to change the seals and bushing now too. I thought it was weird how hot it felt.

I would double check your u joints while you’re there. If they are worn, it will probably wear out your seals again. I was also advised to change my yolk when I did the bushing so they wear in together.

I know I have to change the throw out bearing too because I hear the whine noise from the shifter, so maybe I'll do everything all at the same time.

Update on the transmission. Drove out about an hour away to a car meet today at a race track in CT. It was an awesome time, the notch did great. It was shifting like a dream the whole ride out. I changed the trans fluid last night. Then the issue started happening again on the way back. It was impossible to shift into 1st and 2nd and reverse would do nothing but grind. After some more research I think it's my throw out bearing that needs to be replaced next, maybe it's getting hot and expanding.

Wanted to get your guys opinion on something. I really like the widened look and was thinking of buying wide works 50mm fender flares. But then I thought as the years go on and these cars get fewer and fewer, I wonder if it's a smart idea to mess with the quarter fenders by cutting them. And then secondly, I really like the look of bigger radials in the back, like a weld wheel. I dont think I've ever saw someone with welds and widened in the rear, is it possible?

I'd do what I want. If you're worried about resale, sell the car and buy a Fairmont.
If you do a nice enough job, the car will appeal to somebody. I cut the tail off of one and welded 68 sheetmetal on in its place. If there ever was a more hacked up fox, that one was it. It still netted me 14k.
I'd imagine some nicely done flares wont impact things too badly in hinsight.

Yeah good point. I plan on really keeping it and dont see myself selling anytime soon so I'll probably go through with the widening.

Clean 4 eyed hatch found in CT. Sometimes the best deals are the cars that aren't posted online, but ones you see randomly while driving. Hes asking $1800 obo. I have no clue what's done to it though.

Your shifting issue sounds clutch related to me. For the widebody thing, I know the whole "it's your car so do what you want" theory, but you did ask for opinions. You have a coupe. A nice looking one at that and I personally think it will look stupid with wide flares. Putting wide fender flares on it and/or cutting anything will be something that is not easily undone so I would REALLY think about this before doing anything.

You make a good point too. Well maybe I'll hold off on the flare idea for now.

Question for you guys. As you know I'm probably the most mechanically inexperienced person on the forum. Everything I currently know has been learned the past year working on my car. I've decided to remove all the AC components because I just dont want to put money into fixing it. I checked the pressure on the lines and there was no pressure in the system. I went to take off the accumulator line, and the thing sparked like a firecracker. (I know I should have disconnected the battery, I didnt think of it) question is what caused it to arc like that? Is it normal?

No, that is not normal. I do have to ask though why are you removing the ac components? It is not expensive to recharge a system. I replaced all of my lines, new evaporator and new condenser for around $250. That is literally everything new in the system except for the compressor. That's not a lot of money. I LOVE my AC. I would NEVER own a car without it. Again, to each his own but removing AC serves little to no purpose. Even if it doesn't currently work it hurts nothing being hooked up. The compressor literally free wheels. Up to you, but no it should not spark.
