When I was researching new AC systems all I found is that everything was the same if you used R12 or R134. It's all about the oil. If you are retrofitting an old system you have to clean the old oil out. If a new system the only difference is the oil you use. The R12 oil is not compatible with the 134 oil. Hope that helps @BlakeusMaximus

The fittings are sized differently. That might not be an issue if you do all your own work and have the right manifold gauges though.

I’ve put it off for years due to hassle, but at this point it’s now or never.

I really need ac in this thing
Ahh the cycles of Fox Mustang ownership...
21-40: Remove every belt driven accessory on the front of the engine not required for it to run, put on underdrive pulley system.
41-60: Put it all back.

Getting my A/C working is on my short list. Do you know where they sell the conversion kits, or if there is such a thing?

No conversion kit here. I tracked down many NOS parts other than the compressor. Everything will be brand new, and I’m using r12. Was able to get a decent supply a few years back off eBay

Started dissecting the rail.

A good spot weld cutter makes all the difference. This will be easy to plug weld back on when done.

18 spot welds on the sway bar mount.

What specific cutter are you using? I just got a set of the Blair cutters but haven’t used them yet. I’m hoping for much better results than I get with the Harbor Freight cutters.

Funny how different things are important as we age, I had to have the A/C working (52 years old) but could care less about the radio, all the emissions are on the car except the cats. And I second guess that from time to time haha. Even considering replacing the original engine bay decals...what's wrong with me ??

I only removed AC from vehicles because it didn’t work to begin with. The Mercury needs it’s AC system replaced. Just gotta find the cash for the new components. Probably not gonna get it done before summer.

I was breaking teeth until i started drilling a small pilot hole. The center punch wasn’t enough to keep it located. So I would drill a tiny starter hole and that helped keep it in line.

The teeth are sharp. Don’t go too deep.
