Progress Thread Komo's 1990 GT - Parts Gathering Purgatory & Home Remodel

Well, probably should have looked at photos of all the different but compatible MAFs before buying the Mustang one. I’ll make it work!

I searched a bunch of threads from various forums and they all only talked about the Mustang MAFs and having to deal with the flange.

So i'm back to daily driving the stang again. I pulled the #7 plug to see if its getting all oily again, which this time, it hasn't. Don't get me wrong, its fouled (all black) but no gunk/oil residue like it has been in the past. Lately i've been pulling it, cleaning it with a soft metal bristle brush and reinstalling it to get me by, even though i have 3 spares in the car in case that method no longer works.

I had to add a quart of oil so far since my last oil change but now i don't know exactly how many miles ago that was. I still have hope that the Valvoline R&P oil will help somewhat, just need to put more and more miles on the car.

Once this tank of fuel is gone i'm going to add the Redline SI-1 and run it, repeat for 2 tanks, and see if that helps.

If all hope is lost and it just keeps burning oil/fouling plugs/etc. I will start planning for an engine rebuild.

Was just checking my oil today (all full still, all good) and poking around for 45 seconds. Noticed this little 'kink' in my boost vacuum line. Its hardly a kink, but does anyone think this is enough to affect the boost pressure readings on my gauge?

If i'm being honest, with how :poo:ty the condition of my engine seems to be i don't typically get up into the high rpm/boost zone too often, but i always did think my boost pressure readings were low... however, said :poo:ty engine conditions could be affecting that. Just curious about this line though.

Do you have a carburetor fuel pressure gauge? You could swap that and tape the gauge to the windshield to double check.

Anyone have a good recommendation for a compression tester? I tried to buy both a Lisle and other brand off RockAuto, but apparently they don't have some Prop65 certifications so they can't be shipped to California (go figure).

Harbor Freight Maddox one be fine?

Today at work I took out each drivers side plug (cylinders 5-8) and inspected them, 5, 6, and 8 all looked great. 7 is still getting oil all over it, as you can see here:

Fox Spark Plug Foul.webp

So i replaced it with a fresh one. The good news is the others all looked good. Previously (way back in my thread) they all looked gunky to some degree. So at least there is some improvement going on.

I'll keep driving it as is and clean/replace this plug as necessary... hoping the Valvoline R&P does some good the longer i drive the car.

I did not check the passenger side plugs as those are much harder to get to in a work parking lot.

I also redid my 'spacer' situation with my shifter knob. Under hard shifting my shifter knob would still rotate slightly so i took out all my previous spacers and used an aluminum spacer on top of the handle (to sandwhich in between the top of the shifter handle and the inside of the shifter knob) and was able to get it much tighter now. Noticed my shifter bezel is missing one of those metal clips and its no where to be found, cool.

I have the harbor freight compression tester. Have used it on my 92LX and my wife's 13 Tahoe. Works great in my opinion.

I’m throwing everything I can at this engine before bowing down to a rebuild/upgrade. Did the liquimoly engine flush, running restore and protect, redline si-1 in the gas tank and have a bottle of Engine Restore ready to go in once the oil burns down a quart.
