You’re 100% Correct. Don’t know where to go from hereI think he means he’s done everything he can think of and the problem is still there, and is out of ideas.

That’s what I didAs long as the cam lobes are on their base circles when at TDC you are good to go.
Who the hell is Avery Preston?Yeah I’m tempted to take everything apart deglaze the cylinder walls by honing them and get some good file to fit rings.
On the other hand being only 3 cylinders on the low side I was thinking what if the 1st and second ring gaps got stuck aligned can you just re-position them and put them back in? Probably it is not worth the effort and better start with a new set of rings for all….
Yeah I was intrigued by the non sense between the leak down/compression tests but it is what I got potting Avery Preston at TDC. The problem could be the cheap leak down tester I ordered, the percentage gauge needle was sticking up and was hard to calibrate so I had to take it apart and lubricate some brass gears and pins and ran a bit smoother but still I had to calibrate the meter almost for each cylinder may I created inconsistent reading because of that. On the other hand all the measured leak percentage was bleeding thru the rings not thru the valves so I know the valves were closed.
At this point I’m willing to go the extra mile if that will solve the pathetically poor fuel economy if those three cylinders are causing it.
That mpg for a six cylinders is awful.I will say that I had an engine with 6 cylinders at 145 +- psi and 1 at 120 and 1 at 90psi and got 12-14 mpg while beating the bearings out of it, Has the ECU been checked out?
I will try to get a quarterhorse and still I would like to refresh the bottomWideband O2 gauge. Some way to datalog the computer. This will absolutely shed light on what's happening.
$500-600 is probably more than you need to make it happen. $200 for a WBO2. Like 250-300 for a quarterhorse. Then, IIRC, tunerstudio is free, or you can buy Binary Editor, if that's your choice.
Or, you can tear things down and hope to find something.
It is bad but is not the worst case scenario. It doesn’t burn oil and basically blow by is non existing, those bottom rings are holding up very good but yeah that high fuel consumption is blowing my brain!Yeah general is right, bad rings or valves burn oil and rob horsepower but his sub par fuel mileage is something else.
Just don't know what...
Going To do that in a fewChange the damned plugs an re-evaluate... ate... ate.
I'll say it's running to rich my 91 5.0 coupe did the same thing it was running to rich ? What do the tail pipes look like inside black ? what is the timing at ? and have you checked the capacitors on the ecu make sure it's ok and it might be starving for more air need to get a bigger MAF does the throttle body have a matching EGR ? should be a 70mm TB with that intake, what air filter are you using?Hi all,
I must post this new one because I really don’t know what’s goin on.
My MPG are pathetic at the best, getting 9.5 or less miles to the gallon is unsustainable!
This post will be long since I’ll describe my specs and the things I’ve already looked into:
Engine 306 with 170 twisted wedge heads, flat top pistons TFS upper and lower intakes, TFS stage 1 cam, sparkplugs set at 0.054” and don’t see any dark stuff on them, 65mm TB, 19 lb injectors with no leaks, stock regulator with no leaks and pressure at 39lb vacuum on, brand new O2 sensors, stock 55mm MAF tube and stock sensor, 210lph fuel pump, rear end fitted with 3.55 gears, T5 Z specs with the right gear for the 3.55 rear gears and shifting at 2.5 k, cobra disc brakes with no pads rubbing, all four 245 45 17 tires inflated at 36psi, front cobra brake discs with no pads rubbing.
Sooo, with all of that information what in hell is going on with this horrible fuel economy???? Anyone has any idea what could be the problem???
I haven’t had any chance to buy an AFR gauge to monitor my air fuel mixture, but no matter what driving style I do the problem still there.
I don’t see any black smoke even at high rpm and the car is used mostly city driving.
I have an A9L and a A9P computers both in good condition but the problem still there…
Does anyone have any idea about this?
I truly appreciate any help on this issue, kind of desperate….
Thank you all
How does it run @ 16 degrees on 87 ?I had just running a 70mm MAF tube and sensor from 94-95 mustang GT with the same 19lb injectors. Now I have the 55mm stock MAF to see if I see any difference. My battery is disconnected so I will start from scratch.
I didn’t know you can get that type of remote running so I will look into it.
I run 87 octane gas and never got any knocking even with over 16 degrees of advance.
I will try to get a wide band O2 sensor and an AFR gauge, with that I have to be able to notice any rich condition that is hurting my fuel economy. The strange thing is that if the engine was running overly rich I see no black smoke and the plugs aren’t black…
Thank you
Knock,knock,knocking on heavens door.How does it run @ 16 degrees on 87 ?
The plugs don’t really show much of a rich contusión and the tail pipes are clean, driver side you drag your finger inside and it gives you a really faint light stain. The passenger side you drag your finger inside and it gives there is nothing not even a light stain. They’re clean!I'll say it's running to rich my 91 5.0 coupe did the same thing it was running to rich ? What do the tail pipes look like inside black ? what is the timing at ? and have you checked the capacitors on the ecu make sure it's ok and it might be starving for more air need to get a bigger MAF does the throttle body have a matching EGR ? what air filter are you using?
Not at all! Smooth like silk and no damper spinning, actually it is brand new, and after I verified TDC with a piston positive stop it is exactly at 0 degrees on the damper (TDC)Knock, knock, knocking on heavens door.
Maybe his balancer has moved and his timing is off.
have you checked for any codes?Since I have. TFS stage 1 cam it idles really nice. And it accelerates very nice pulling really strong from 2K rpm with no misfire.
I’m really frustrated! Where does the fuel’s going? No leaks from the fuel tank and charcoal canister is holding the fuel vapors from the tank and venting them to the upper manifold thru the purge solenoid valve improving the fuel economy…. Ha!!!!!! Well no fuel saving here!!!!
Also the fuel return line is free no blockings.
So what else???
Thank you
It seems I scan that darn computer every other day NO CODES . Ran all three tests KOEO, KOER, and Cylinder Balance Test and there are no errors.have you checked for any codes?
That’s correct.Just to clarify you are getting an 11 then a 10 and then an 11, correct?
