160* thermostat

Since it has started getting hotter there have been alot of posts about engine temps. increasing and cars running hot lately.

I have always ran 160* thermostats in my stangs which always ran cool even in Florida and have had no problems with them. (Fox Bodies)

I know there has been the 160* or 180* debate on which you should/could run. Some say the 160* cause problems and some say they don't. I am new to the SN95, and want to go with the 160* thermostat but I am not sure how this computer will react to it. I fear the majority of the responces will be in favor of the 180 but the question I want to know the answer to is this:

Why should I not use a 160* and why would the 180* thermostat be the better choice. Or if I am supprised and hear some say go with the 160* stat, explain why there as well.

Thanks, Adrenalin

if you run a 160 your car will always be in cool down mode and will never reach correct opertional temps. Our cars operate the best between 180-200. Mine runs at 190 most of the time and only goes up to 210 when its hot or in slow driving but then the fan kicks and and it dropes back down. Its much better for your car to run a 180 T Stat in it. Run a 180 w/ some water wetter and you should be ok.

The computer will be fine with the 160 since it switches to CL at 120 (if I remember correctly) but you want it between 180 and 200 as he said for best performance. I find I'm running best at 190.

Thanks for the reply's fellas. I think I will at least try the 160* and see how it runs firsthand. I can always swap to a 180 later if I don't like it. I just didn't want to throw in a 160* then have to redo it again because of a computer problem or something.

Thanks again, Adrenalin
