I shoulda made my dash like that.

Again, I maintain that the design engineers that worked for the big three during the late 70's were all addicted to drugs.

I got to thinking after the fact.

You always do that.

Come into a thread, make some reference to some obscure thing from the past, insert some equally obscure pic that you probably have stored in your photo bucket, and then throw out some weird comment to go with it to guarantee I'll sit for the next hour wondering what the hell you meant, and then disappear like some kinda mind bandit.

Well it was the 70's duh. Hell they all had Disco Fever...Glad it wasn't contagious. They did create some of the ugliest car designs ever. Hard to believe how creative they were in the 50-60's to end up with the crap they created in the next 2 decades.

Not a lot to report. I got to removing the unneeded brackets measured up to where the leaf springs will sit. Mocked up the spring perches. Be nice to have it sitting on top of its new running gear.

That isn't the orientation that those perches are supposed to sit at are they? Parallel to the pinion?

No, not by any means. By mock up I meant I have them the correct distance on the axle. I can't set the pinion angle until I have it under the frame.

Haha. I had to tilt the pinion up to cut and grind a bracket off and this is where it sat while I measured the brackets out to see about where they would sit.

I sold the trans from the crown Vic today which freed up a bunch of room. That is the last of the crown Vic pieces I didn't need as well.

I picked these up today as well. Proper plates to cinch down the rear end.



Good quality thick plates.

Where did you get the plates from? They look like they are thick.

They are also from SDHQ here in Az. They are very thick and good quality. They'll probably outlast the truck.

That's only because they used flint in the making of the rear bumper. They stopped that with the pinto

Getting a little warm here so work on the truck has slowed. I was looking for a dd in the form of a new edge mustang gt and came across this. 2003 mach 1 139k, cobra front bumper, 5 spd , staggered 17x9 17x10.5 fr500 rims.

I have never had or driven a specialty mustang before so I decided to spoil myself.

Slow moving since the mach 1 darkened my door step. I finally got around to mating the 98 mustang trans and 96 351w. Hoping to soon lower this mess into the truck and mount it along with the front end sheet metal to finalize ride height. Then I will finish weld the front suspension on the front rails.

I know. Been pretty busy lately. Plus its been really hot. Good old Az summers. I wanted to have the rear and engine mocked up before summer started but that didn't happen. Still planning on having it on the road before the years out. By that, I mean bare bones running, no paint or convenience package...

Mach 1’s were 5 speed and just the cobras had a 6 speed. Mine is the tr3650 version and is in much need of a short throw shifter and knob. The knob on it now is a monstrous metal ball thing and sucks. I am looking for my old steeda knob that was in my old hatchback fox but I guess they don’t make it anymore. I will have to be on the look out for it used though.


I was searching craigslist like I do most weekends and found an ad for gt40p heads (that’s what was advertised). I have a set of MAC headers in the garage so I figure I can do something with the heads. Says they are from a 96 explorer (should have been my first clue they were not “P” heads) and he has the intake as well. I ask about the entire engine to which he still has. I offer $10 over what he wants for both the heads and intake to which he accepts. We meet this morning and I see the heads are 3 bar not 4 and say “GT” instead of “GT40P.” The seller is indifferent to the fact he was wrong and tries to tell me otherwise. I decide that I already made the trip with engine hoist in bed of truck so I buy it all anyways. Complete motor except the oil pan( he apparently broke it).


So now I am feeling more like @tannerc91gt as plans are always changing depending on what I can talk myself into.


Plans-

Going to use GT40 heads on the 88 notch mustang after they are rebuilt as well as the GT40 intake. Plan on new springs to handle at least the stock fox cam and possibly new valves. The explore 302 has 285K I am told so I will take a peek and see if I can re-ring it or just a budget rebuild for the 56. It will have the E7 heads from the mustang for now and an extra gt40 intake I have stashed for rainy days.


For those following AZ weather we are in monsoon season with a ton of rain lately. It makes incredibly muggy outside due to the heat and absolutely miserable in the garage. The swamp cooler isn’t ideal for humidity so work is still slow on the project end.
