Is this summit brand single stage? I was looking at this and reading some reviews. Many highly recommend adding the clear coat or the shine won't last on the single stage after a few years. (Guess it wouldn't be a true single stage then.)

I found a blue that I wanted to put on my 56 and maybe my notch back. But not sure it's worth the effort to get single stage

I found through the years that you will have a deeper shine with single stage.

True, a single stage doesn't have the UV protection you will have with a clear coat and will begin to degrade sooner than a base/clear paint job.

I think Mike said the monster will be garage kept (sure has been for the last couple years) after he has finished. This will prolong the paint job's life.

All that said, you can clear coat over a single stage to get the UV protection. And it will look very nice as well. One problem, you have to pay for the clear coat usually (unless you are a lucky bstard like me).

A vertical panel will always have more peel than a horizontal panel. You want it smoother, lay it flat.

All paint will initially have peel in it no matter the angle, flow time plus gravity pulls it flat on a horizontal surface.

With as fast as that set up, you could probably fix it today, if you had the time. On that note, when you paint the monster's body, you might look into a slower hardener and reducer since you will have so much area to paint. It will allow you to finish up an entire coat without any issue of overspray. Plus it will flow out even more.

I sit here at 7:30 on Monday morning, scrolling along and BAM... Beer post. Now I want to leave the office and head to the bar.. I mean I could wait until lunch but dammit man!

I like the outdoor paint booth Mike! I can certainly attest to the "crap" in the air though. My cars sit in a closed off garage for some times weeks at a clip and are always covered in something... I don't get it, I'm just glad I don't ever paint anything with something other than a rattle can because "crap" in the paint is uncool

It's a good alternative to the stout (when that's all you normally drink). Typically, I stay in Great Britain drink wise now a days. Murphy's, and Guiness for the most part. Smithwicks, when I want something "carbonated", and lighter. Boddingtons, Bass, Harp, and now the new stuff gives me all the alternatives I need to Bud light.

No, this paint was bought long before I even Knew to look at Summit for paint. When In opened that Gallon, it was the first time it had seen air (since mfg) in over a year.

But,...If you come here, you'll have your choice between 6 different ones. Just one more reason to get out the BSF suit and head my way. If the BSF had been here, yesterday would've been about the whole car, and not just a few measly pieces.

That was done with "slow" reducer. Shopline only has two different hardeners, IDK which one I had,...I'd assume it matched the reducer.

Correction,.....Paint Pavillion. If that had been Mike's Paint Booth,.....there'd be no junk in the paint, and I'd have been able to see (because the pavillion had no additional lighting) So I wouldn't have to repaint the shroud because I missed a part.

The paint looks great, Mike. Although, I did get a good chuckle out of the overall paint booth picture.


And the beer selection doesn't surprise me, I knew you wouldn't drink something as pedestrian as something that ends in 'Lite'. :nice:

Well....It just wouldn't be normal if I didn't have the downer side to yesterday's "up."

I leave all of the painted stuff hanging right where it was this morning under Mike's paint pavillion. The weather forecast called for similar conditions to yesterday,...I figured "good, it'll do that stuff good to air dry another day."

I get home this evening, and "mikes paint pavillion" has decided to move over about 20 feet, taking all of the hanging stuff along for a ride. The whole thing was bent and broken, all laid out like some sort of dead metal spider. All of the hanging pieces had crashed to the ground when the thing collapsed. The door handles, the hinges, and the rear exhaust tip (the G hole) have damage. Basically equivalent to me dropping every single piece on the ground, on pavement.

So,...it looks like instead of fixing one piece tomorrow, I'll have to fix 6.
