Amazon collecting sales taxes keeps us from having to keep track and claim it on the state taxes each year if you prefer not to cheat. I am not impressed with the junk from China on eBay or how they treat honest sellers anymore. Amazon has been good about fair fixing things when two transactions went wrong.
Mike,
Those other Fairmonts are a good reminder how far you took it. Even with bad knees!
That looks to be the case. I received an email reflecting a 90.00 credit from them, and they will also reimburse the return expense on the precision gate, + apply the 100.00 credit that the original mgr applied to try and smooth out their F/U.
It's all good.

As for the "less than fair" Fairmont's dropped into the thread by @old_blue, I get that they are a reminder of how far my car has come,...I'm just glad to be here,..rather than there.

So,...I still cannot test the car today...currently 24 degrees, still patches of ice on the roads in the shady areas...

I'm thinking....

The old gates allowed a giant amount of potential boost pressure to escape past the guide, and valve guide before opening the gate.

These new gates don't do that anymore,...and open immediately at 8p.s.i.

What I'm wondering here is what that means to me? In other words, Do you think that it will be even quicker to come into boost now,..and will that be more violent (figuratively speaking) w/ regard to power applied to the pavement,...or will it be more linear now, now that the opening rate is more gradual,...not requiring almost 13 p.s.i to crack the gate.

I'd imagine that exhaust back pressure is also trying to force that gate valve off of it's seat,...(it has to,)..otherwise, how come I had boost pressures all over the place between 4-5 p.s.i. hit one time, and 8-9-10-11 pounds the next?

I dunno mike.. But my guess would be with the new gates, the Boost is going to come on fast and be pretty violent
:burnout:
That's what I'm thinkin....All the previous tests I held the throttle once boost started to climb to prevent the thing from going apesht..now that I know that it shouldn't go beyond 8.p.s.i. I should be able to floor the throttle...
Once I upload the latest revised timing curve.
Maybe... I get a little bit...

The ricers bouncing off their rev limiters are soo cheesey though

So,.....off early today,...courtesy of the weatherman.
When I get home,...three boxes from Amazon are standing in the door way.....(wonder what's inside) This was supposed to be one of my better kept secrets from the wife because if she finds out that :
A. These things cost 440.00 when I am constantly complaining about never having any money (now that I'm on the regular "fixed" BMW income)
B. That I applied for 6mo same as cash to pay for them,...even though it's entirely on me

She'll have a come apart.

So,....I got the two Turbosmart gates,.....These are the models that my Chinee copies were made off of...

Actually it's kinda ironic. The Turbosmart gates are domestic.........If you live in New South Wales, Australia that is.

One more Australian add-on.

Anybody interested how different the domestic vs the Chinee copy actually is?

Had to come over here to catch up! Luckily the wife and I have separate cards, but share the same Prime account....and I have my work address setup as ship to address! But freaking Paypal credit is like crack. I prefer to use Amazon, but you can't beat 6-24 months no interest!

BTW, catching up on what's been going on...I don't know if you calibrated your speedo yet. On my 85 GT with the digital cluster, I went out on a new interstate spur that's near my house. I pulled over at a mile marker, put it in calibrate mode and drove to the next mile marker. I figured that was accurate enough.

I have done the same thing as far as the speedo cal is,...It seems "close". I'll have the wife pace me one day to see how fast I'm really going.

I used my own credit references to set up the account,..and if i can get the stupid things paid for before the discovery,....it'll be cake.
But,...if she finds out while there is still a balance,....
It'll be a meat pie. And my balls will be the main ingredient.

It's not like you're trying to sneak in a junkyard find though Mike.......that would be REALLY BAAAADDD and stupid.

You don't have a smart phone with GPS or one of those nifty "find your way and turn here" applications? Even my very stupid Windows smart phone has that and it will show your current speed.

While I am talking about smart phones, avoid Windows based smart phones like the plague. All the neat apps don't run on it. I have been working on Windows based desktop computers for 25+ years and am well familiar with Windows. The version of Windows that came with the Lumia 635 that I have is just about the sorriest contraption I have ever owned! :uzi:

You get all excited and do this on your next test run, and then we get to watch you apply for more credit for those new pistons, rods, HG, replacement valves, etc! Be careful!

Well.

You guys know how Murphy's law came into being?

It's a short lived snafu really,...a test pilot was testing explosive decelleration on a rocket sled back in 1949 in Edwards AFB.
The sled had a series of weights hanging on a rail and that were setup so that when the sled was forced into decell mode, the weights would slide forward and "lock" into place. I believe that each weight represented 1g.

Now ol dude was all set up to test a -40g stop, and some ground crew guy forgets to set the lock, and when the sled comes slamming to a halt,....all of the weights didn't stay locked in their little dedicated space, and the test proved inconclusive.

The test was so traumatic that the guy's eye's were bleeding!...... He did all of that for nothing.

It had to be done all over again.

Which brings me to today.

I get the tune loaded,..let the car warm up, and fix my camera into the inside of the passenger side window. I get the car to my dedicated test area, turn the camera on,.....and my computer has lost it's connection with the ecu. I restart the ecu but it takes forever to do that,...so I forego the datalog on the first leg, planning to retry that at my turn around point. ( besides,...we're rolling tape):nice:

The engine's warmed up,..the cameras rolling, I'm at my test track,..I got the new tune installed, and everything out of the interior that could rattle (like those cupholders) that would otherwise fool me into thinking that I'm rattling the motor instead.
All the while the camera is on me, and I'm talkin directly to you. No bag on my head,...no camera head set pointing in the same direction that I'm looking,..It's just me........ and...you....well,...... all of you however many that is. And all of us are piled into the monster,..and we're getting to take a real ride this time.

I wail on the thing. Tires light,..tail comes out from behind, I stuff the thing in second, were still blazing,....the thing cools out in 3rd but we're flat out honkin.

No detonation, no pinging of any kind....... Just the Monster,..screaming all bloody hell and sht in all of his high visibility orangeness.....rolling along at .7 mach blazing towards all of the soccer mommies coming the other way in the other lane.

I get to the turn around point,..retry the datalog thing, and this time, I'm successful.

This is like a space launch now,....
We got Mission Control,....."Flight,...you are go for launch"
Capcom confirms that we are capturing data..."Data is being recorded Flight,..you are go for launch"
You got me in the command module "Roger Mission control,..this is flight,...main ignition sequence in 3,..2...1"...

I stand on it from a 10 MPH roll.... Lets slow it all down.....

The throttle response is instantaneous,.the car goes from 0 p.s.i. to 7 in less than 1 second.
The engine screams up to 6100 RPM, not alot by V8 standards, but you have to realize that this 6 banger was never intended to see north of 4500.
The tires can be heard despite all of the commotion coming from the engine, and the tail coming around tells me that power is getting to the ground. I stuff the thing in second,..and power is still there but it definitely falls off by the time you get into 3rd but,..what the hell,...you're going 80+ MPH, and this all happened in less than 4, maybe 5 seconds...

Now,.....you're sitting there thinking "Why do I need a written account when all of this is on video" Why doesn't he let me see this for myself?"

Murphy's Law is why.

The freakin camera turned itself off at the 1 minute mark. I'm talking to nobody despite that fact that I have completely come out of my shell,...err..... box, and now I'm telling you "no says the finger that, and quoting other member's comments" ,....you don't get none of that.....God freakin.........:dammit:

But,.....The Monster is now a real boy, and not some wooden puppet.

Evidently the good blue boost fairy must've sprinkled her magic dust on him,.....
Now he's ready to bite some asses.

I am very Happy and Depressed at the same time... How does it feel to hit boost at a roll? Kinda scary right? Lol

I've been in fast cars before....the Conquest was 633 RWHP....this car is far from that. It'll be fun for me because it makes a lot of low end grunt,..and not alot of power it seems..First and second (Mostly because of the 4R70w /3.73 gearing) are both pretty worthless.
But you can tell there is not much left by the time it's in 3rd,....I'm thinkin what I always thought...350 hp,...450 tq.

The answer is simple really,..and relatively cheap.....a 3.25 gear is in the monsters future.

I'm very glad to see folks here straighten out their issues and feel some happiness.

Dusty is getting there....can't wait to feel the tires light up from a roll.

I should check my Chinee BOV...and WG.

I'm already in the ' no gas ' club...I can't afford to join your other clubs, Mike.

Amazon is offering 6 months interest free-Just saying :D

Then you need to move onto lesson #2. While a Chinee BOV may not be as critical (as of this writing,..the BOV has worked perfectly), but the wastegates are pure crap.

It's amazing to watch the datalog, and see the wastegate go to 7-8 p.s.i. and just stay there (like it's sposed to) compared to the all over the place Chinee junk.
At least you only have to replace one.
