They do, but I ain’t doing it. I can buy the head studs for about 150. Tty bolts are 60 bucks.

I went to that page, then checked out the 1jz/2jz swap section. I am happy to see 2 of the items that come up first are electrical tape and zip ties. I was worried the TojoZ swap would be super high tech and complicated....no worries, zip ties fit a TojoZ. This will go great!

And even if I do,.....a second, and even a third time...I could buy three sets of TTY bolts for the price of one set of studs.

Who buys head studs as security to justify.." Well,....if I ever have to take the head off a forth time, I'm saving money"

If I'm taking that head off a forth time....I'm doing a raggedy and burning this bitch to the ground... I have stated value insurance.

It could burn to ash and I'd make more than it'll ever be worth as a running car.

My wife told me that she had never seen me any dirtier than what she saw this evening when I came out of the garage.

I've never felt dirtier myself.

Seemed like every possible automotive fluid that you could pour or have drip or spill on yourself did all of that today.
I removed the engine,..while removing the oil pump, it slipped and landed in the drain pan under it. It makes this giant sploosh of oil that coats the leg of my pants, soaks my shoe, and coats the underside of the car...which continued to drip on me after I cleaned it all up. Trans fluid, antifreeze, brake fluid, I got exposed to all of that today...

But I did get the engine, and trans out.

At noon I get the call, head dude is done with the 2 Jz head...when I go to pick it up, I discover that he has " surfaced " the head with a belt sander...

Why are there still yea-hoos in business?

Who knows what the problem is with the finish a belt sander leaves when it comes to using a MLS type gasket?

I do.

I tell the guy that I need him to redo the head to give me a semi-mirror finish on the head deck, and that the finish that he gave me will cause me problems with my head gasket seal.
" Never been a problem for me before." Dude says..."Well maybe none of your heathen customers from the past ever ran a MLS gasket, and 20 pounds of boost before" I want to tell him.. But I don't. I just need it fixed.

In the end he can't fix it, the belt sander is all this guy has.

I have to take it to a different shop..it takes 4 passes at .0025 each time to get the head smooth.....010 total, and another 40 bucks.

When I get home it's 2:30, and I wanted to get started on the adapter plate for the transmission...I figure I've got about 3 hours left before the wife ends my day for me...so I start cutting and welding..

I get the plate roughed for the 4r,.....I get the plate roughed for the 2j...
But by then it's 5, and I've gotten the call...I have to stop..
I have little to show for my day off.

But..what little there is...have at it.

What once was,..is no more.

I'll bet it sits here till the end of days.....

The beginnings of the adapter plate that'll let me marry the 2j to the 4 r...I'm using the A340 trans as a template for the back of the 2j.

The two of them together,....The picture doesn't show it, but the 4 r is significantly larger than the stock yoda trans..

And look whose back,...sporting a very shiny bottom...

Mike Mike mike . Buy the damn head studs . Skimping and using TTY bolts is silly . You aren’t going to run this thing at stock hp nor stock boost to make the power you want to make . You will sneeze it will make 500 easy . Head studs is something i wouldn’t skimp on at all .

Stock Toyota timing belt are used by a lot of high hp guys l . You made the right move on the oem oil pump too . Don’t let the JDM and usdm stuff drive you nuts . GTE is GTE . Same
Goes for GE stuff With about 99.9 percent of the parts .

I agree with @TOOLOW91, and he has a great point - you're going to put more power through this thing than it sees on a normal day-to-day basis, and you say 20lbs now...but you know it's going to be 30lbs eventually (like 2 weeks after it's running well).

I'll bet you pull that head at least once, which means another set of bolts you have to get right before some big event you want to go to. Those inevitably will have to be ordered.

Unless you want spares laying about, which means you now have $120 tied up in them.

What kind of setup allows you to use a beltersander on a head and deck it evenly, or did he do it by hand?

I shoulda just bought the stupid F150 Coyote, and been done with it....I'm already at 5k on a 20 year old engine.
I didn't, because I would have to adapt the trans, have my driveshaft shortened, and convert my brakes over to make room in the engine compartment for that big assed thing. I didn't because it was ugly, and the tune it would need intimidated me.

But I chose a jap spec 2j instead...cause it was a "running engine".

But I've also had to make a pan, have the head checked, ( shoulda had my head checked instead), and now it looks like I may have to mess with the driven accessories...the stupid power steering pump is some goofy assed variable resistance unit with an electronic plug on the side to change the level of assist at lower speed,...( just like a freakin BMW). I don't know if I can reuse the AC compressor, and to adapt mine will be a pain, and.....I have a 130 amp one wire alt I want to use instead of that Denso thing that comes with this engine. I've had to buy an intake, different injectors, ( that I have to have tested to be sure they're what the guy says they are) an exhaust, and a different Wastegate.

The oil pump was 200...the head gasket is 125 bucks ( for a stock MLS) and now.......I gotta spend 150 more dollars for head studs...

Perfect.

Why are you switching alternators? Seems like another potential trouble point, and you're likely trading a more reliable (and easier-to-source) part for one that isn't...

The PS pump and all your other woes are easily alleviated... the MS3 can control all of it Mike... you have so many options at your disposal that you dont realize, the pump need a pwm input for feedback? Ok we build a pwm output based on mph for that easy peasy. Nothing is impossible...

Oh and the coyote is nothing special to tune either, I have already tuned that thing once.
