Hi all, as some of you know im looking for a nice shell to stick mt 2.3T into, im going to check an 88 5.0L coupe out tonite that has the TC disc rear w.373's and flow master exh. it looks clean from the pics but only checking out the car will truly tell, it has been repainted so the magnet is gonna have to come out to see if the car is a bondo car or if it truly is clean. its a nice price ($1300 CAD) i figure i can sell the 5.0L with exh for around 400 - 500 and make some money back.

my question is how much different is swaping a 2.3T into a 5.0 then a n/a 2.3? i have a rewired harness for the 2.3T (originally a n/a 2.3 harness repinned and all the turbo stuff added in) and i have a LA3 for the car as well. so if i take the 5.0L out along with all the electrical, it should be a straitforward swap right? also will i need 2.3 engine mounts or are the 5.0L mounts the same as the 2.3's? anything else i should know?

i dunno cuz the 5.0's already have the big front brakes, 8.8's, nice tranny's (will i have to swap out the input shaft for a 2.3l one as my DF centerforce clutch is off an SVO?). the only thing i dont like about 5.0's with higher km's is that they are usually twisted...how do i check for that other then the tellatale signs on the a pillars (might have been bondoed) and crack in the windshield (might have been replaced)?

Thanks for the help

well i think the input shaft is longer on the 5.0 so i dont think you can use the 5.0 tranny....the engine harness and computer will have to go...i think it is more of a pain to swap over a 5.0 vs a already 2.3L plus i can only see 100-200$max for a used 5.0 motor.....

cant the shafts be swapped? like i open up a 4cyl tranny and put that inpt shaft into the 5.0 tranny? as for the swap either way i planned on replacing the engine/harness/computer as i have all of that stuff. im more concerned about vaccum stuff as i dont have any of that from a 2.3L could i get the vacc system off a 2.3 n/a from a JY? anyone on here ever done this before?

thanks

I think the V8 shaft is only longer on the 94 and later T5's.

I don't believe you can swap the shafts. Something about the gear on the 4cyl shaft vs. its counter in the V8 box. Double check me to make sure, but If I remember right, that's the deal.

There's a pilot bushing that's being used to stuff the larger input shaft into the tiny crank. It's pretty thin and reviews have been mixed.

The fuel line runs up the opposite side of the car. No big deal really, just another thing to overcome. The vac tree is different, but I don't think its that big of a deal. Vacuum is vacuum regardless of the shape of the tree so long as ported and manifold vacuum are routed accordingly.

If the car has A/C and you're planning to keep A/C, the hoses/drier/and possibly the compressor are different. The condensor is the same though.

You'll need an electric fan since the 5.0's fan was engine driven.

As for the mounts, The k-members are the same, but the rubber mounts are different. I can't say for fact if the perches on the k-member are different between the two. I'd venture to guess the perches are the same. With as many guys that have done the opposite of what you propose without the perches being mentioned its a safe bet to say they're the same.

I'm just rattling off the top of my head so I may have missed some things and there's certainly things I don't know about. I hope this is of some help.
