2 Alum. D/S left!!!!

For those interested, Parkway Ford has 2 aluminum driveshafts left! Now, the price is $236, but when they're re-released, they'll go for at least $260, plus shipping. So, if you want to save 30 or 40 bucks and don't want to wait 3 months for your d/s, call up Joe at Parkway Ford, 888-FORD-SVT. (tell him Jeremy sent you )
Feel free to call local Mom and Pop stores first, but I did that for two days and found NOTHING... If you want it now, call while the gettin's good...

I'd much rather pay $159 from Summit and wait a couple of months. They are on backorder until August but at least you end up paying regular price.

I've seen a lot of lightly used ones in great condition sell for $125 or so on the internet. I'm going to go that route. Screw paying $100+ more for a new one!

See, in my situation , I'm scheduled to have my 4.10's installed in 2 weeks, and if I didn't pay the extra $100 for the DS now, I'd have to pay the extra $100 to have it installed SEPERATELY from the gears , rather than doing it while he's already under there. PLUS, I'm not willing to get any DS vibrations for even a day, let alone 3 months. Nor am I willing to hold off installing the 4.10's until the end of the summer....
So I guess if you're not in my shoes you could wait and save some dough, but this has been a long time coming and I'm done waiting!
IT'S 4.10 TIME BABY!!!!

You would pay someone to install a driveshaft? Hell, you don't live close to me, do you? For $100 I would also be willing to rotate tires, or fill your wiper fluid, or even change your air filter. Do you have lots of friends who are like you too? I may open a business... How does Uncle Ben's Speedshop sound?

ps- what makes you think you will have DS vibrations if you do 4.10's with the stock DS? There are hundreds of cars that run them that way with no vibe's, and just as many that put in the aluminum and have them anyway. I'd go with Summit myself...

well... when I lived with my mom I had my own garage, tools, etc., and never paid a dime to a soul to do a damn thing on my car. Now I live on my own in an apartment where I can get thrown out for changing my oil in the parking lot (and no, I'm not moving, it's a beautiful apartment in a beautiful area), and I just moved to the area from Queens and don't know anybody up here and don't have any friends that have garages/ tools, shops, lifts, etc..
Plus when you start work at 5 am, and don't stop until 10 pm somedays, 7 days a week, it can be kinda hard to find friends, then find friends who can help you out after that, then find the time to take away from making money to do things yourself...kinda see where I'm coming from??
I guess we make sacrafices sometimes in order to get the things we want later in life.
So does it suck to have to pay somebody else to do something that I know I could do myself if I just had the time, friends and resources I used to??

Dude, there is no excuse for not being able to install a driveshaft. I've been told it's a 10 minute install if that, and that it takes longer to jack the car up and get it on jackstands than it does to actually install the DS. I work full time and go to school full time, and even if I didn't have a place to change it (like you said about your apt.) I'd pull into a damn empty parking lot and change it.

If you pay someone to install your driveshaft, please take your fist and ram it into your nose. 3 times. Preferrably really hard.

I didnt have much vibration from the 4.10's. I just bought the D/S cause I needed a new yoke and U-bolts. It did get rid of some vibrations though. You could get away with the stock one for now. Check out Gefracing.com maybe they have some left for 150.00 bucks.

I heard somebody saying Ford was uping the price 100 bucks but I doubt that true though you never know.

It's true, LOL all you have to do is look on a few sites to see that they've gone up. A few places still list the old price of $160-$170, but most of those are out of stock. It's getting hard to find a new one for less than $220-$250.

Is. And that was the allegory I was trying to make. A little mean spirited, but that was how it hit me. Besides, if I named it Uncles Jesse's, I'd have loud renegade rednecks in beat up old muscle cars coming from all over Anyway, I remember well living in a city apartment where I couldn't work on my car, even now I'm not allowed to even wash it where I live. I just know that with the jack the car comes with and $30 you can buy a tube of threadlock and the two simple tools needed to change a DS. I've changed my share of parts in obscure, empty parking lots. However, maybe that $100 means a lot more to some of us than others. I'd never be dumb enough to tackle gears myself, I know my limitations- but there's some things I just won't pay for as a matter of principle; especially that kind of money for that job.

It COULD be a 10 min. job, if you had a lift, power tools, lube, and good luck / the u-joints... Even then, I think 10 min. is a little exaggeration. 10 min. in a parking lot??? DEFINATELY not.
Either way, you're missing the point:
1).For me, paying the extra $100 for a driveshaft now instead of waiting 3 months is worth it. Maybe not to anybody else, but to me.
2). I'm not PAYING the guy to INSTALL the shaft. The extra $100 in question would be to purchase it now rather than wait. The d/s is being installed for FREE since he'll already be under there doing the gears. NOW, If I went back 3 months later and said "Can you install my driveshaft now for free since I paid you to do my gears 3 months ago?", I don't think I'd have much luck.
So, it's not a matter of paying someone to do a job I could do in an empty parking lot. It's a matter of paying extra for a product now rather than wait, and have it installed for free while I'm paying for a gear install anyway.
However, if you still can't see where I'm coming from, that's fine; I guess it's a good thing that it's my money and not yours in that case!
And punching myself in the nose, 3 times, preferably really hard?? Uhh... I just uh...guess I really don't know what to say to that.....

If you think you need more than 10 minutes and all those tools to install that DS, you're better off paying someone to do it for you. It's 4 bolts and the u joints are already installed. You will need a jack and jackstands, though.

Yeah, if he's got the stocker d/s on.... GOOD FRICKING LUCK getting them bolts lose in 10 mins!!.. Enough Said..

****, yeah there's alot of stuff I could do, but sometimes it's just easier to have someone else do it. Also like he said, he just should have it done while the mechanic is under there...
