I'm lookin to change out my stock 16's on my 95 GT for some 95 Cobra R's, but I'm a little worried since they are 17x9's and come with 275/40's, will they rub up front?

Any help would be appreciated, if this has been discussed before please provide link to previous post.

Thanks.

I wouldn't do it. Not that I'd be so afraid of them rubbing mind you (since the '95 Cobra R's ran them with no issue), but the wandering, darting back and forth and premature tire wear would drive me crazy!!!

I'd stick with the 245's up front if it were me. Especially if at any point you have, or plan to instal lowering springs on the car?

Thanks for the reply, depending on how the car looks with the new rims is whether or not i will drop it.

I guess my next question would be if someone has used smaller than 275/40's on their 17 x 9's, i dont want to use tires that will be too skinny for these rims.

Many people have run a 245/45/17 on a 9" wheel, but it really depends on the tire manufacturer as to how they’ll look. Some will design their tires with a more square case than others, making them appear wider than they are. If worse comes to worse, you could always pick up a pair of 17x8 Cobra wheels off of a '98 to run on the front to ensure everything’s square all the way around. I believe they're of the same design as the '95 Cobra R's, only in a narrower wheel.

I run 275's up front with lowering springs and I don't really have any problems. I honestly didn't notice any more of a difference in how it feels on the road, except the better handling, and in addition, adding more positive caster will provide more stable handling and it wont' react to the grooves in the road as much. Just get some caster camber plates, get it aligned, and you shouldn't have much of a problem.

Thanks for the help everyone, I'm probably gonna go with 255's up front, i'll get the caster/camber plates, and hope for the best.

I'm going to get the 2000 Cobra R's instead, can't resist 18 x 9.5's
