315/35R20 Rear Tire

Is anyone running 315's on the rear? I saw this Saleen on eBay with 20x10 rear wheels and 315/35R20 rubber. I was wondering if they are too big and would have rubbing issues. I haven't received a response yet from the seller on eBay, but I doubt he will tell me if they rubbed anyways.

They're about 2" taller than stock. A 315/30 would be near perfect, but I've been unable to find such a size.

I tried getting a 295/40/20. Discount Tire said they wouldn't put on for rubbing issue. Ended up getting a 275/35/20 bfg kdw rear. I wish I could have found a 285/35 or a 295/35 rear.

I've seen a couple of Saleen's around the Phoenix area.

I'm gonna say that rubbing is not an issue simply because Saleen is not going to put out a product that creates a problem such as that, its just bad business.

But that's not to say that I'm positive, they might do some body work to compensate. I know the Saleen's have a completely different suspension setup, but am not sure how that would play into it (if it even does).

I'd say contact Saleen directly, you're more likely to get a better educated answer.

As bigcat stated these are not stock. Stock rear is 275/40R20 when you have the 10" wide rim which he does. Those tires are the same brand and model as stock only 315/35.

I went to Discount Tire's "tire calculator" website and the difference between the two tires, 1) 275/40R20 and 2) 315/35R20 is this:

Sidewall Width: 1) 4.33 2) 4.34 Difference of .01

Section Width: 1) 10.83 2) 12.40 Difference of 1.57

Overall Diameter: 1) 28.66 2) 28.68 Difference of .02

Circumference: 1) 90.84 2) 90.10 Difference of .06

Revs per Mile: 1) 725.75 2) 725.24 Difference of -.51

With almost no change in speedo.

That only works if you already have been calibrated for a 28" diameter. The factory calibration is for 27" total. Even the 275/35 is taller than stock.

saleen has its own calibration, so it is not affected by the larger than GT size tires.

Actually the stock tire is 27.2" and a 315/35/20 is 28.7...exactly 1.5" taller 3/4" on the ground and 3/4" in the wheel well.....

They will fit and they will not rub. You can even drop the car 1.25" and they will not rub. You can use the Steeda sport springs to accomplish that drop and run a small spring cushion under the spring (1/4" thick). That will put it right at a 1.25" drop and they will not rub. You can EVEN run a 10.5" wheel and the 315/35/20 with that drop and stock shocks and it will not rub. If you put the eibach drop on it yoou better be ready to run some adjustable shocks out back to stiffen it up and be ready for a crappy ride.......
Then you have to get your calibration fixed for the speedo.

Saw these 20" puppies from Axis too, looks like they just came out..

9" in front 10.5" in rear, and they have a bolt pattern for the new Mustang!

What tire size are you calling stock? On the Saleen in the picture and the Saleen I have, with the wheel and tire upgrade, the rear tire size is 275/40R20. Using the web site you provided the two tires, 275/40R20 and 315/35R20, are both 28.7". So there would be no need for a recalibration. My only worry was if the tire would rub because of the width.

But I guess you answered my question if you are running them with no rubbing. Nice car by the way!

i want to stay with 17s, but I would like to get the torq thrust II. What is the largest rear and front tire I can use? I am also going to lower the car an inch or so. I used to have a chart that showed the tire size to wheel width.

We're all saying the same thing from a different POV. Either way, Joe, your car looks fantastic- AGAIN. Now I have to chase you with my new one like I did with my '02

BTW, what is the effective gear ratio change if I go with the taller tires + calibration on stock rear? On 4:10's?

Sucky thing about most of these nicer wheels is non of them are legal in NASA
