4.56 Gears

i'm wanting to get a KB, but it'll probably be quite a while before i do that.. i'd rather get heads, cams and headers before the KB, so it'll be a LONG time b4 KB comes around for me.. so i guess i'll just go with whichever I can get my hands on, however the 4.10's are more appealing to me because FRPP actually makes them

I usually drive 75-77 on the highway.. sometimes i get up higher, just to get around 18 wheelers and such, but not much.. i rarely race past 90.. which gears would be best tho?.. 4.10's, 4.30's? or 4.56's? and there is rarely bumper to bumper traffic, well not while i'm out anyways.. i'm usually at home outta school by the time the crappy traffic comes thru town
If you're going to be cruising at 75+mph on the open highway, then I'de go with 4.30's, unless if you plan on stepping it up to a taller tire for the rear in the future to kill the rpm increase just a tad. I know I'm around 2700rpms with 4.30's at 70mph in o/d. Since you have a 5spd, your rpms might be a tad less in 5th gear.

Hmm... thanks for the help man, I had no clue about the rpm's, that helps too.. i rode in the car with the 4.30's and it pulled hard as hell, that's what made me want the different gears instead of my 3.73's..

Well its like this, 4th gear with 3.73s is about 115 @ redline...4.10s is about 101 @ 5800...4.30s seems to be around 90MPH....4.56s max @ 85ish in 4th I belive. These are rough estiments.

Thats why i chose 3.73s :D . As you can see, I would be darn near maed out in the 1/4 right now with 4.10s. If I had to hit 5th (like with 4.30s) my MPH would SUCK.

Any idea what you'll redline at with stock gears? Or do I need to go find out?:D

Well.. the tracks in my area are 1000ft and 1/8 mile.. so, i prob wont get any faster than 93-95mph.. but i'm not sure, i'll think about it for a little bit b4 i do anything.. i'd like to ride in Helty's car after he gets his 4.10's :D

wtf are you talking about?? i know plenty of people that have trapped in the 110 range on 410s in 4th or higher.

 Just get more power:D

Well, accordingly to the gear calculator at TCH racing, if you have the TR-3650 transmission w/ a 26.0 slick diameter on the rear and 4.56 gears, you'll be turning 101mph at 6,000rpms in 4th gear.

You're crusing rpms in 5th gear(with the above specs) would be.....

2,193 @60mph
2,375 @65mph
2,558 @70mph
2,741 @75mph
2,924 @80mph

OOPS! Sorry for the wrong info, put down the wrong specs there. Apparently mine and everyone elses speedos are WAY the heck off. I just looked up the specs and 3.27s 136 @ 5800, 3.55 125 @ 5800, 3.73s 119 @ 5800, 4.10s come to 108 @ 5800, 4.30s 103 @ 5800, 4.56s 97 @ 5800.

I was doing rough estiments (like said in above post). Mine shows 115 @ 5800, but according to the calculater I am doing 119  . And yesterday when I went to 6050 and showing JUST over 120, i was actually doing 124. Then add on my 26inch tires I was going 126 REALLY. hmm:D Perfect gear for when I get the 2.2 KB:flag: . (note, the tire height doesnt effect my speedo vs tach relationship...it was 115 @ 5800 before and after the 26 inch tires...only effect REAL MPH)

EDIT...It may be the tach thats off

that's not too bad at all.. but what about a regular tire on an 18" wheel?
Depends on the specs of the tire. Will it be the same size as the stock tire height ? If so, the stock tire height for a 245/45/17 tire is approx. 25.7 in diameter, so it would still be close to the above rpm quotes.
